Park/Dash light problem.

On the '97 I just bought the dash lights and park lights come on as soon as I turn the key to the run position. If I turn the headlight switch to dim the dash lights, the dash lights don't dim, the park lights do. I changed the headlight switch and didn't change anything. I'm gonna start chasin wires tomorrow evening, but does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?

I'd look at the wires to see if it looks like they been cut and spliced

I went back out to the shop and unplugged the headlight switch and turned the key on and the dash lights still come on but not the park lights, so it's definately in the wiring somewhere. The harness that goes to the headlight switch looked ok, what I could see, didn't look cut or burnt or anything. Guess I'll be lookin some more tomorrow evening. Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!!

I think my first thing to check will be the after market stereo that's in it. I'll almost bet that's where it is. That would be a nice, easy fix.

Oh crap.........I shouldn't have said easy!

+1; aftermarket stuff is the first thing to suspect when this kind of fun happens. The parking lights / dash lights do NO go through (or "threw", for that matter) the column multifunction switch.
