Need measurements - '51 F2 rear u-bolts
Hey, all, still alive...
When I cut my u-bolts off my rear end, since they wouldn't un-screw, I put one away that I could take measurements off of. Can't find it - I can find all the others that I took the plasma cutter to, but not sure how accurate that would be. I have the top "U" part, so I have the width - I just need the overall length. Outside or inside measurements would be fine, whichever is easier, just let me know which (I know, ****, that 1/2" wouldn't matter...).
Anyone with an F2, give me a hand?
Thanks!
Roger

How many leafs do you have in the spring pack. IIRC the Chassis Manual has a chart that shows that the F-3 spring pack was optional on the F-2, and vice versa. I believe the chart lists the length of the u-bolt arms for each. I'll go pull the manual and look it up, then come back and edit with the info. Then hopefully your spring count matches one of them. Stu
Edit - so I learned something too. There were three optional rear spring packages. Twelve spring, thirteen spring, and fourteen spring options. The spring clip used with the 12 spring option (no doubt stock F-2) was #01Y 5701-A that measures 2.28" wide x 7.78" tall/long with 1.38" of threaded area at the ends. The 13 and 14 spring options used #01Y 5701-B that measures 2.88" wide x 8.36" tall/long with same 1.38" of threads on the ends. The 12 spring clip was narrower (2.28") than the 13 and 14 spring clip (2.88"). There you have it. Stu

Thanks, Stu! I'm at work now, but pretty sure mine's closer to 3" wide, than 2-1/4" wide, but regardless, I'll know in the morning. That's nice to know that there are only two "flavors". I'm changing over to a 1970 Camper Special 3:73 rear end, instead of the original 4:86, I'm not in any hurry, so don't want to go any highter ratio than that, but DO want to go over 40...
Thanks again, nice to be back working on the truck - just got my 1-3/4" water necks ordered - hard as hen's teeth to find, but need them to fit my new radiator. Hopefully , not long before the truck is at least mobile, enough to clean my shop!

Thanks, Ross!
The stockers are 1-1/4 hose size, to match the stock radiator.
Offenhauser 1949-53 Flathead Angled Water Neck - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop
I bought an aluminum radiator, that has 1-3/4" hose outlet, so need the bigger water neck. Could only find one source, for that size, Honest Charlie's:
Search results for: 'water neck'
Some try to hootenize different setups, to work - multiple hose sizes, cutting different inlets, and welding them together, etc - this was worth it to me, to get the right ones...

Hey Roger! I've tried a couple times to get ahold of ya. I'm just right up the road in Otterbein. I'd love to check your truck out sometime and see what you're putting together. Beyond that, I've got a set of decent F-2 u-bolts here that I'm not really going to need. PM if you're interested.

I replace my rear with a 71 F250 DANA 60 Rear End. Also you may want to check your center bearing, mine didn't like the 70 MPH highway speed. It came apart and I limped home after crawling under the truck and putting it back together. This was just after I replaced the rear.
Good luck, Just gotta like that speed.

(Hiya, Josh - I'll post pics when I get back on it.)
