Hi, does anybody have a diagram that breaks down the front axle components of a 1997 mercury mountaineer? I believe my drivers side ball joint is shot because it makes a thumping sound whenever it goes down the road and the wheel has a lot of play in it. Thanks in advance for your help!

 

So you're really looking for front steering and suspension exploded view diagrams? Is your Mountaineer FWD or AWD? The service manual doesn't really have a detailed diagram of all the suspension components in one diagram.

Is it the steering wheel that has a lot of play in it, or the front driver's side wheel that has the play? Are you certain it's the ball joint, or are you trying to find the diagram so you can see what other parts could be causing the play? I could provide you with the diagrams if you know what areas you're looking for specifically.

my mountaineer is AWD. Im pretty sure it's the ball joint but yeah I would like to see diagrams so I could figure out what else it could possibly be. The drivers side front wheel has a lot of play in it and the tire is worn so bad on the inside that it wore the tread right off. Thanks!
