2002 F-150 super crew electrical problem?

Hi, I have an 02 F-150 fx4 supercrew with the 5.4 motor. Over the past few months, the trucks gauges peg and go the whole way to the top then go back down to normal. It has never done this before. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? Now the door ajar light stays on when the door is shut and the dome light stays on now. It also shut off by itself the other day going down the road but started right back up. This truck is all original, never been tuned up. Only things ever replaced on it were the manifolds under warranty. It currently has 110,000 miles on it. It is well maintained and is not a rust bucket! Can somebody give me an idea of what might be wrong or at least guide me in the right direction? Thanks!

Gauges spiking on startup normally mean the battery is dying or the alternator is going out... when you disconnect the battery and install new, the gauges spike the first time.. im guessing you have an old battery ?
The light switch is inside the door latch. You can try spraying some WD40, etc, into the latch or at the switch to get it to free up. Maybe just sticking.

Since the motor died for no reason, then restart, and you have the battery, gauge spiking problem, them might be related. If battery is old change it. If new, check all terminals, connectors, and grounds to the frame and motor.
