PRESSURE BLEEDING A '01 LINCOLN NAV.

As i posted in another thread, i replaced both front rotors, then removed about 2/3rds of brake fluid from reservoir, to replace front pads. After i was finished, i topped off reservoir, then tested brake pedal. The first pump was hard, but second went soft in a nano second. Figuring, as i always do, that if something was good before i messed with it, it must be something i did. In this case, i figured my messing with front calipers, i probably screwed up one of the flexible hyd. lines. Got back under, and checked for brake fluid leak.....nothing. Upon further checking, i realized leak was coming from left rear blown line, just before brake block. Got new section of line, and coupling the next day, used tubing cutter to cut back to solid line, flared end, and installed new line. Here's where i ran into prob. When i hooked up my pressure bleeder, and pumped up to 8-10 lbs, i loosened brake bleeder, and......nothing, just a few drips. I increased pressure to 15 lbs, then 20 lbs, and still nada. The only way it would bleed, was by pumping brake pedal? I've used my pressure bleeder many times, but never encountered a prob like this on other vehicles. Is there something about the '01 Nav that's different? I just can't understand why it would bleed by pumping pedal, but would not bleed with 20 lbs of pressure? Kinda' makes me mad, that i paid $80 for pressure bleed set up, but had to resort to old fashioned tube in bottle, and manually pumping brake pedal

Hmm, all I can think of the the ABS pump/valve assembly won't let pressure pass unless the pedal is being pressed.

If you're correct Alloro, wouldn't you think that would be stressed in the manual? And probably in BOLD letters, with maybe an asterisk? My other vehicles have/had ABS? If i get a chance, i'm going to hook pressure set up again, and have neighbor hold pedal down. If that makes the difference, i'll sue the publishers of "Haynes Manuals".........lmao

Not really since a Haynes manual can cover many different years that have slight procedural differences. A factory service manual would unquestionably have the correct procedure.

You'd think something that specific would be Alloro, but you're right about a factory service manual having that info. I have one for my '77 vette, and it was expensive, but worth it. Not something most of us could afford, for each individual vehicle

Check eBay, you can find them second hand for much less than dealer prices on there.

Now there's a thought. I use ebay myself, when looking for Haynes manuals/auto parts. You'd think i'd consider looking for "factory service manuals"? Apparently not....duh........must be "senior moment" connected......lol
