Factory Remote Start - 2 way or 1 way?

I haven't been able to find the answer to this with the search feature...

Is the factory installed remote start a 2 way system or is it 1 way? From what I've read here, you can get the two way after the fact and its plug and play install (I put one in my F250..very easy to do..).

I'm thinking about going to a F150 and just need to figure out how I'm configuring the beast....

the factory installed systems have always been 1-way.

2-way available after the fact from the Ford Accessory division/catalog.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. I much, much prefer the 2 ways over 1 way, so no factory Remote Start..

What's the benefit of the 2-way vs 1-way? My guess is the 2-way allows the ability to shut the truck on and off. Where as the 1-way only lets you start the truck.

I was wondering what 2 way was. I am just happy to have one way as I could not get any on my f250.

it has nothing to do with being able to both start and stop the truck with the remote fob.

2-way means that you receive a confirmation back on the remote fob that the truck started. I haven't seen Ford's 2-way system in person yet, but I think it has a green light that blinks or the fob gives off a beep to let you know that the truck remote started. 2-way aftermarket systems have fancier remote fobs with LCD screens which gives you a visible indication of whether your truck started or not. 2-way systems are good to have when you park your truck in places that you can't hear it start up or see it (i.e., see the parking lights come on after rmst).

After you install the plug n play factory remote starter do you need to take it in to the dealer to get the option turned on?

generally you start it remotely from a building window, from which you can see the vehicle lights and mirrors blink when locking, and then the lights come on when it starts so who needs it on the fob? On a cold day, you see the exhaust fumes. Same functionality isn't it?

I thought I read in the owners manual that the remote start fobs have a longer (2X?) range than the ones without. So do the 2-way units have even more range than the factory remote start units?

I can't find the specs since I'm on my phone but I know the 2way has a range over 1000'. Im thinking the one way is something like 200 or 300'. Again these are not absolute or confirmed numbers. Just the best I can recall

^that's about the right distances. It's because the 2-way and other systems Ford Accessory systems come with a separate antenna for longer range.

Forget about the 1 way or 2 way, the best thing to have is the text to start now. Basically it works using your cell phone and depending on the carrier it has a lot more features. On mine I have GPS, Run time remaining, temp, and a whole whack of other things mostly to do with theft and all that other stuff. It also includes basic stuff like unlock, lock and starting. I pay $110.00/ yr for the cell service and can start it anywhere I have cell coverage, anywhere in the world. My truck came with a 1 way but I never use it unless I am walking up to the truck and unlock the doors or ocking the doors.
It is by far 10 times better in my opinion than 2 ways but you do pay for it. If you don't mind the extra expense then these are the defiante way to go. For my system with theft alarms and GPS and all the neat stuff not including the annual fee for cell coverage I paid $800.00 installed
