All of these "I wants" are cluttering people from finding the "I haves"

That was kinda my point a page or two back...

Offering a "have" is one thing, and perfectly fine...

But the "wants" just makes it easy for repondents to say "well, I have what you want but I want $X for it" and hide behind PMs.

I don't know, maybe we should discuss this here...

What say you all?

I agree, maybe we should have a "Items Wanted" page, and let it go from there. If people have an Item that someone wants, but not for free, then it should be delt with privately in PM's
Only free items should be posted here, and also use PM's to finalize the deals.
If you have something that you want to sell, then take it to the classifieds.

Just my 2 cents, hope I didn't offend anyone.

In the very beginning of this thread it was discussed wether to allow the "im in need of" posts just as well as the "i have available" posts as long as, again... there is no mention of a monetary transaction in the public thread. Having the "i needs" right there with the "i haves" means i wont skip over the i need thread.
Its convenient just the way it is. It would be nice however if there were some sort of marker that could be added to a post by its poster to indicate said item has been rehomed... or said need has been filled.

Thank you,
Please drive thru...

You guys you know we can do like the 80-86 fseries style has where we have a Junkyard wish list for each month and we can update it each month of what we want and just notify if we got it. It is a stick for that style so maybe we can get it going too.

Not really.....being too lazy to READ the posts to discern isn't the fault of the thread or those posting.

Really I think it's doing fine as it is. It'll just take looking through some posts to see if anyone is posting prices on items, etc. If that becomes the case, I'll gladly remove said post and take appropriate action.

I guess my only thought on it is that if we make up separate threads for "Wants" and "Haves", we're just going to clutter up with another thread and it'll take a lot of digging to try to find them once they've been off the front page for a few days, weeks, etc. Conversely though, we could make a "Wants" thread, link it in the Tech Folder sticky at the top of the forum, and let the thread itself float.

Having a WANTS and a HAVES thread, both linked side by side in the Tech folder woudnt be bad.

A want thread would be easy to maintain. You either allow price discussion or require that all communication be through PM after the initial "I need XYZ part." Personally, I favor the second.

I agree with A/0x4 about making a sticky thread on wants because then it isn't to confusing. Any price discussion would need to be done in PM and then just let us know in the thread you found the part. I think it would do good. And alot of people will get parts faster then just selling them. I mean alot of people have parts laying around and forget about them until they see a I want such and such and they rember hey I have that I could give to them.

I think it's fine the way it is.

1.Someone posts what they have to give away.

2.Someone needs/wants said item and contacts poster via PM.

If you look through the thread and don't see what you want/need, move on to the classified section. If only what was available was posted it wouldn't be so confusing. Geez guess some folks can't do anything for themselves anymore. Lets have a thread that provides free installation of said part(s) too.

If you need/want something at no cost and arent willing to atleast search a thread to find it I say tough luck. If the users would use this tool correctly, there wouldn't be a need to add/change anything. I like to help poeple where I can, but I don't think it's likely for someone looking to donate a part to search for a person to give it to.

Comment Title Suggestion

Just found this forum been reading through the posts. Seems like Wants vs Haves and how to identify them quickly is a major. I belong to an email Freecycle group (similar concept) where you have to preface each posting subject line with Offered or Wanted , makes it easy to identify and search threads. Just a thought!

Great point! I too subscribe to the local Freecycle groups, that would actually work well here.

Next time someone posts ... just make sure the post title includes HAVE: or WANT: with a description of the part.
