What's this? Something sprayed on wheel - pics

Hi all!
I get something sprayed on my left front wheel / tire, that brown - yellowish stuff in the pic below. What is that - any ideas? It's only (well, mostly) on the left front wheel (drivers side). I have included a pic of the other front wheel also, very little on that side.

Left front wheel:

Right front wheel:

Thanks for any input!

Looks to me like brake dust. While not as noticeable...you can see the same pattern on the right wheel.

Yeah, that was my thinking also, but why like 10x on one side vs. the other? The truck does not pull to the left when braking or anything.
The only difference I could see is that when parked, the right side is more protected, while the left side faces west (wind / rain, etc.).

Who knows...it could be caused by any number of factors. From what I can remember about my previous vehicles though...I don't think the brake dust ever caked up at exactly the same rate on both front wheels.

brake rotors can get surface rust almost overnight I'm thinking the side that isn't as protected gets more of the surface rust and when you hit the brakes it all comes off... there is just more on that side.

Could it be from driving through a puddle with a lot of pollen on the water? The stuff seems to be everywhere right now.

I think you ran through a puddle of some kind of liquid or residue.

Because if you notice, the stains are only on the one side of each spoke (brake dust gets all over the rims), and I've never seen yellowish brake dust (even if the rotor was rusty) and brake dust does not make those lines on the tires like in your photo.

but who knows, was it sprayed anywhere else on your truck, like in the wheelwells or side of truck behind the tire?

Thanks everybody!
Nothing anywhere else on the truck. The surface rust idea kinda makes sense - I think that could be it. For the last few weeks, rain has hit the drivers side very hard, while the passenger side is protected.
I'll just watch it, I am not too worried. Maybe I should back up the driveway for a few days, that would tell me.

I go along with surface rust on the rotors being washed off with puddles or rain water, brake dust from pads is most uniform, would not leave streaks like your photo's show.

Flixden, my truck is making a similar brake dust pattern. I think it's just a matter of the airflow through these HD payload rims. The spokes must function a bit like propeller blades, drawing air/dust/residue through in those "bands" when at speed.
