new calif diesel emission law

by the sound of this new law it sounds like most diesel trucks are in for some major problems. Does anybody out there know if the older 1995-1999 7.3 models are exempt?

If it's the same law I hear about about 6 months ago, the law only pertains to comercially owned and opperated vehicles such as buses, trash trucks, and that sort of thing, not to privately owned vehicles. Not sure if it's the same law though. Honestly, that's why i got my butt out of Cali... lol

It is in affect in California and it includes privately owned diesel pick up trucks. I think it goes back to 98 models but not positive. I own a 2000 Dodge with the cummins and I had to have mine smog checked last year. The inspection is a joke. They inspect to make sure that are no performance enhancements and it passes a smoke test. Tailpipe smoke has to dissipate within so many seconds. If there are any power increasers like high HP injectors or high output injector pumps, removed cats, its all got to be changed back. I think the larger exhaust systems are ok as long as the cat is still in place. I use to have a smog inspection license when I worked in dealerships and I can tell you this states inspection system is nothing but a scam. The federal government dangles billions of dollars of road fund money in front of the states nose and says if you want this you have to implement this program. The catch is the state spends zero dollars in implementing it. It passes all of the expense on to the shop owners. I've heard that there even going to start requiring smog inspections on motorcycles in California.

And yes, you take your truck in and they charge you 60 bucks to rev your motor up and look under the hood. We took my buddies 02 to get it done, they popped the hood, inspected exhaust, and reved the motor. Took 10 minutes if that. When they told him it was 60 bucks, he told the guy ill give you twenty' signed the forms, and walked out.

You ain't kiddin... I get a huge kick outta all those college students who say they think the government should pay off their school loans and all that jazz. you want the govt to pay for your college? join the military. otherwise, you haven't earned a d*mn thing, ya whiney little punk! Problem with America these days is people complain too much. Ship their whiney a$$es over to the sandbox or africa or some other third world country and see how much of America they complain about then...
*hops off soapbox*

I sure hope this new law don't go back to 97. I live in Cali for the time but will be Washington bound once I get another job. This state is a crazy money pit!!! I had an 07 f150 $800 to register it the first year I owned it. WTH!!! F-6 chip and dual 4" black stacks shoul fail their tests with flying colors. Ha ha ha
