straight piped 4 cyl?
89 ranger with the 4 cyl. Can I remove the muffler and just run a pipe out the side? What size pipe will be okay? I was thinking 2.25". I took the exhaust off right at the muffler and revved it up, but right after it bogged down and died. Wouldn't restart. Put the exhaust back on and it fired right up. Was that due to not having enough back pressure? I'm looking for more sound out of it.

So lets get this straight, you want to draw attention to your 4 cylinder truck? Isn't that exactly what those Honda ricers do? "Hey look at me, I'm loud and obnoxious, I sound mean, but I can't get out of my own way!!!!" Is that really the statement you want to make?
I would leave it alone. Its a 4 cylinder, its loudness should be in proportion to its performance.

Yeah I just rode in a friend's truck basically the same as mine and it was obnoxious. Although,I would like it to be a little louder. Quiet vehicles just aren't my thing. What would make this sound "decent" but not obnoxious?
On another note, why would it stall out without the muffler and tail pipe on it?
