I'm a security guard so we have new fullsize pickups for patrol vehicles. Right now we have dodges but I've driven 1/2 tons from the big three out there. I do prefer the older trucks, the chevy's suspension is too soft. We have dirt roads we have to check and the chevys bottom out if you're not going really slow. I think we have '10 or '11 dodges and they have much better off road manners but they still drive like a car. I like TTB F150's the best, great on rough dirt roads but still feels like a truck.

Yep. Some of the stuff I see coming out as 'trucks' is ridiculous. 4 door with suv interior, light duty, short bed, performance tires, rims. Engines that suck down gas and are huge, for the relatively little torque and utility they have.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be in a coal steam bob tail, I like a radio and seats. But, if I wanted to carry a whole family with ac, stereo, leather, smooth ride, I'd use my car.
When I'm in a truck I'm making money, breaking my back, or having a little fun. I like the clank of the door, feel of the road and the engine, windows down and radio up. Has about as many wires as a book, not a thing on it that can't be fixed in the middle of nowhere. It's for hauling, towing, or driving over whatever I need. Not looking pretty. No need to worry about it.
Give me a box cab with a 300 or a 6.9 any day. If I want to spit tobacco or have a drink I'll hold the cup myself.

Give me manual windows, a transfer case with a lever, rubber floors, and a solid front axle. I don't even need a headliner if it will lower the price. The only comforts I want is a radio with an input for an mp3 player. Don't want satellite radio, don't need a high-end sound system, I don't even need 4 speakers.
Right now I'm at work sitting in a base-model '11 dodge 1500 4x4 club cab. It's a government vehicle so I would imagine it's as stripped down as you can get and it's got more electronics than the apollo 11. It can tell if the tire pressure is low, what the outside air temp is, or if everyone inside is wearing a seat belt. And it's got a DIAL on the dash to shift into 4wd and I'd have to read the owner's manual to get the t-case into neutral. The traction control really helps when it gets slick out but I don't have it on my personal trucks and I do just fine. And it sits so low it looks like a 2wd.

I used to work in a shop and we had lots of trucks come through there. The super dutys were alright but had their share of issues, more so than dodges(with exception of the '94-02) and chevys. If I were going to buy one I'd get a manual transmission for sure. Seems that those trucks with powerstrokes are slightly cheaper than an OBS PSD. Avoid the 6.0l.

Friend of mine bought a 2010 F150 crew cab medium box.
I drove it.....doesn't feel right.
First off, it has a center console with the shifter on the floor, 2nd the steering wheel diameter is to small, and the wheel it self is to fat.
Has no room up front, but has twice the room in the back seat.
The front looks like a car, can't see both corners of the hood (front not square enough) for a truck.
Has 20" rims with 3" side wall tires, really? On a truck? Come on!
And has a 6 speed transmission, vs, my 89 3 speed, and my 89 gets better mpg than his!
I'll gladly keep my old trucks. No payments, and same maintenance as any new vehicle!
