Hi,

In the 16 pin plug that goes into an F150's mirror :


Pin # 2 is for reverse.

Can someone tell me if this switches to negative or positive when you engage reverse.

Answering my own thread :
It seems to be 12v.

Ok...another question.

To get the autodimming to work, am i correct in saying that i need to put 12v to pin 15 or 11 ? and ground to 15 or 11 ?

pin 2 is activated by the reverse wire. it's positive switched

auto dim doesn't require anything special. just the power/ground/reverse trigger to be connected. the mirror does everything else internally once power is applied. the reverse trigger tells it to quit dimming at night-time so you can back up as needed


your OEM rearveiw mirror hopefully will have 3 wires. a hot wire, a ground, and a reverse trigger (green w/ brown stripe)

connect that green with brown stripe to Pin #2



You need to connect the following wires to make the mirror work.

My current mirror has no wires.

Did you take permanent 12v to your camera ? or switched (reverse live) ?

I've not got the ford camera, just a cheepy from ebay.

and if you get all that wired and nothing works, you might just have a 2011 mirror.

there are 2008-2010 mirrors
and
there are 2011+ mirrors

they operate the exact same way. however the pins swapped positions

here is a 2011+ pinout. ignore the handwriting

 

I pulled a switched 12v power from my 7 pin connection at bumper

the camera is powered whenever the truck is running. just like the factory installed ones are.

the reverse trigger wire (green w/ light brown) tells the mirror to turn on the LCD display and show what the camera is outputting



I spent about 3 days figuring this mod out. It's awesome once it's working, but a major PITA to go blindly into. Hope I can help you avoid my growing pains

 

I've got a sync mirror, so the earlier 16 pin type. I might try my cell phone mic through it, not sure yet.

If i don't wire the compass wires up will it just not be there ? i.e. no error messages on it. I don't want / need it. I already have a compass display on the roof console.

Thanks, i've already got my reverse wire which i needed for my sat nav.

 

the rearview mirrors w/ camera display don't show the Compass on it

they simply sense the cardinal directions and send it to the LCD in Instrument Cluster (if equipped on vehicle)
