what mpg to expect
hello all, I am looking at buying a 2005 f150 4x4 5.4l supercab, its bone stock except for a k&n air filter system, it has 149000 on. What kind of mpgs should I get? very little highway miles mostly short trips to and from farm, I currently have a f250 v10 and am filling up 3 times a week and only hauling a round bale of have a week.
am I gonna see enough savings to justify going to a 1/2 ton?

I have an 06 Lariat 4x4 5.4.
my 96 litre tank would yield me about 550 kms at best doing 120k on the highway. (25 US gallon/350mi/75mph)
I have added a KN air filter, and AIRRAID throttle body spacer, and the best thing so far has been a GFORCE Computor chip. Combined, i have seen tanks of gas exceed 725km (450 miles)!
I wouldnt have believed the difference, but the filter and chip did the most, i noticed a little more mid range with the spacer.
Next is a airraid junior intake hose next week, i will let you know it things improve still!
Cheers!

The short trips are going to kill the gas mileage. I have only done 2 things to my truck to improve mileage. I added a Scanguage II so I could monitor my mileage and a tonneau cover. The cover got me about 2 mpg. On a nice day and if I am really easy on my truck I can get over 18 mpg. Which I don't think is too bad considering I have 4.10 gears.

I drive very conservative, I get around 15 mixed driving during commute of 30 miles round trip. Long trips, 16-17 mpg driving 70-75. Short trips, mileage will suffer. As for your situation (short drives, minimal highway drives) expect 13-14. Again, it depends on your driving style and tires do impact mileage as well.

4 mile commute = 11mpg.
70 mph highway trip = almost 17mpg for me.
I have been known to flat pedal from time to time. The 93 octane tune will warrant that though.
