My Nitto Terra Grapplers and air pressure

So I bought a set of 295-70-18s for my 04 FX4...they do look good, but they aren't the quietest tire around... and if I hit a patch of rough pavement, the rear end bounces around. This gets a little spooky going around corners...!!! I checked the air pressure...the tires has 50 psi. I dropped it to 40, and that helped somewhat, but the shake and shimmy is still there. on rough pavement.

Anybody else have that problem? What pressure are you running? I'm considering going to 30-35 psi but I don't want to mess up the tires.

35 psi wouldnt really hurt it, but if you drop psi to much it starts to eat at your mpg, was it a smooth ride before your new tires?

My tire shop set it originally at 35 when I had my tires installed and that was fine but I wanted ti a bit higher because I haul and tow on a regular basis.

Also the shimmy I didn't have until I changed to aftermarket wheels and I think that is more because they could not align them as well for some reason.

Did you get the D or E rated? Also how old are the rear shocks? When I got my E rated tires I noticed the road a bit more, they were a little less forgiving to the cracks and potholes. Or Maybe the new tires are accentuating the bounce from bad shocks.

Thanks for the replies. I got to thinking right after I posted this that the shocks (original) might be the problem, and since it's raining kitties and puppies here in Socal and I have a nasty cold , I haven't checked to see the load rating on the tires. I actually never gave the load rating a thought when I bought the tires...my mistake.
My truck is low mileage...right at 51,000 miles...all on the original Goodyear Wrangler tires. I'm just getting ready to get the injectors and throttle body cleaned...

You don't need to check the load range I can tell you right now that you have E tires on the truck as that is all the 295/70/18's come in from Nitto.

Coskid is right they are E rating for sure. I run my trail grapplers at 40 psi, and I don't notice anymore bounce than before. My truck has 45k on it now and i'm pretty sure that the shocks have never been changed. I too took the original goodyear wrangler tires off my truck when I bought these new ones. They would have made it a little longer, but when the new tires came in, I couldn't wait to put them on. I'd be willing to bet that your problem is in the shocks not the tires. Nitto makes a really good tire.
