New to the Bronco life. need some help.

So the oil pump runs off the cam or what not. So its Mechanical so it really should not fail. whats the chances it failed? I have never had an oil pump go out on me before. never and I have owned alot of cars. I really need to get this fixed and I am hoping its an easy fix and I dont have to drop the pan.
