What is the difference between a programmer and a multiposition chip?
I am leaning towards an SCT X3 Powerflash so that I can adjust the trans shift points. I see that the the chip connects directly to the PCM and the programmer connects to the OBD port.
Any one else have any experience with SCT X3 programmer?
Thanks

The programmer uploads one tune to the PCM at a time. You're stuck with it until you pull over and go swap tunes, which takes some time. The multiposition chip has a different tune for each position and changes tunes on the fly. So from your street tune to your tow tune (or any of a bunch of custom tunes) in 2 seconds. The programmer is also VIN locked to that truck until the tune is removed, so you can only put the tune on one truck at a time. But it can read SES codes, which is nice. Never tried an SCT or any other programmer, but I groove on my DP tuner daily.

If you want a real tuner go DP, you can pick the tunes you want and there not just canned tunes like the SCT
Programmer is a canned tunes, DP is a custom burnt tune that you cant go wrong with theres a couple others out there too, Tony Wildman tunes and Ive been hearing some good thing about PHP tunes too

It costs money for every tune added I found out.
Id like to know how its going to know what my built tranny is doing?
Ive been emailing back and forth with DP the last few days and I see
I need to know alot more than I do to make a decision on what I need or want?
Its going to be a real big pain trying to figure it out.

I have a non-stock transmission and ordered the F6 - this saved my butt. My tranny had an allergic reaction to the tunes (hard shifts), so a few emails and adjustments later - all my driving tunes behave exactly as they should with the transmission. The nice part was I had the stock tune to fall back on until the bigger power tunes could be worked out. It's a process, but canned tunes may not work at all with a built transmission and good luck getting those squared away.
James and Jody will work with you on dialing the tune as part of the price for the tune - so you don't have to worry about additional cost. Jody then applies what he learned to subsequent customers with beefy transmissions. The next person that has the same transmission as I do will get a good tune the first time because James, Jody, and I have already worked it out.

I had a custom tranny built and just as it was being finished, I had DP send me a list of things they needed to know about the tranny. I took the list to the shop and had them fill in the blanks. So when I sent my chip back in for a re-burn, they had all the answers they needed for the tunes.

Mine was already in the truck so what do you suppose I should do?
Closest BD transmission is 300 miles away.
Sounds to me like theres going to be lots of sending it back and forth , Im not sure I need the headache.
Wonder if theres another way?

Look to see if theres a tag on a vin # so to speak on the trans. If there is you should be able to contact BD with the number and thell be able to tell you everything about it

To add a little more info for you...
Here is the info that DP asked me to get for the re-burn of my chip when I got my new transmission.....
Shift kit?....if so did he use a calibration plate above the valve body and if he did use the calibration plate what did he drill the hole sizes for the 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. These hole sizes tell us alot.
If he did not use a calibration plate then I assume he did tricumulator springs and valves....?
Did he stay with pulsewidth modulation for TQ converter lockup OR did he go to ON/OFF lockup?
Any front pump modifications?
New tq converter? Triple disk?
Hope this helps.
