bio compatable filters

Hey all, I did the hutch and harpoon mod from Strictly Diesel. Have the Baldwin BF 1212 filter on it now. The manufacturer says this filter is rated up to 20% bio-diesel, something about the bio melting the glue if going more than 20%. Strictly doesn't know where I can purchase filters for this set-up that would allow using 100% bio. Has anyone of my brothers run into this problem, and if so, what filter are you using?

Thanks ya'll, Tom

I saw this thread when he first posted it and was actually looking around for a B100 compatible filter for him, but to no avail. I checked out JME sales and Northern Tool as they both have a decent inventory of various biodiesel filters and supplies. The problem I ran into was finding a filter that worked on a 1-14 thread mount, (which is what the Balswin 1212 is). Most common is a 1-12. I know they're out there, I just can't seem to locate one yet.

When I did my in tank mods, I almost went with that same set up, but didn't because of this reason alone since I run B100 most of the year. I'll keep trying.

For what it's worth- I ran rotgut homebrew bio in concentrations 50-70% for a few thousand miles through a BF1212. I cut that filter open after going cold turkey from bio. Did not see any visual indicators of failing glue. That doesn't mean there wasn't failed glue or that the filter would handle 100% bio.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have also found filters with the 1-12 threads. May try and contact Baldwin when I get home this evening.

binuya,
Just talked to Baldwin and Fram. Neither one has a filter that is bio comparable that will fit this mount.
Where did you get your mount, and will it mount to my current bracket? If I have to go that route

I didn't go with the kit you have. I wound up making my own and used this one for the pre pump:

On my fueling cart I have a two stage filtration set up with a 25 micron hydraulic junk prefilter (not biodiesel rated), and a 2 micron B20 rated finish filter. When I changed these out last year after passing over 1000 gallons through them, I saw no degredation of any glues, seals, or otherwise. I also know of several others that use B20 rated filtration without issues. I suspect you could run the Baldwin for a while without any problems, but that's up to you. I am just sharing my own experience and observations. By the way, GPI makes biodiesel rated filtration that might have what you are looking for.

The adapter linked below might work for you, it appears to thread on to a 1-14 head and allow use of 1-12 filter. His 1 micron filters are also 100% biodiesel compatible but 1 micron is awfully small for pre-pump.

NTD

An adapter would work, if one was made for my application. Don't believe the ntd would work though.
Called both Baldwin and Fram, and they do not as of yet have a 100% bio compatible filter. Other manufactures do, just not in the 1-14 size Still looking.

Can't use, its a 1-12, I need a 1-14.
BTW, it's mounted under the truck, as a pre pump filter.
