Ron,

I'm in your neighborhood over in New Hampshire. I bought my running 49 F-1 a few years ago for $3900. The truck came from Connecticut and needed some rust repair (two front fenders, cab corners, etc), so you can find something in this area for about the price you want to pay if you are willing to wait for the right deal. Just remember that most anything found in this area will probably need rust repair. It's been fun working on my 49 for the last three years.

I'll keep my eyes open and will let you know if I run into anything for sale in your price range....

Here's an F-3 on Vermont CL. F-3s can be made into F-1s...

I cant thank you guys enough! that means a lot to me. And the advice is priceless so thank you for your help! I guess at this point I will broaden my horizons and find something over time that is good "workable" shape. Being so new and ambitious to this, the advice is worth as much as the investment! I will continue looking and I will look to find something and I will continue to follow the posts! Thanks for the kind welcoming and priceless advice!

Hey Ron,
Welcome Aboard! I thought it might be useful to see what you could get
down here in the dry Southwest (Texas) to help you with perspective.
Here's a sampling..

$4500 - Lubbock Project truck - Looks to be an original vs hotrod.
1950 Ford F1 Pickup

$2995 - El Paso Project truck - The body has been re-done.
I can't tell you how expensive & time consuming it is to get your truck
to this shape. Mechanical stuff is easy in comparison.
1949 Ford F-1 Pick up (Project)

$13500 - Houston Project truck - A fun looking project....
1951 Ford F1 pickup

$6000 - The Rio Grande Valley - It runs! Not a bad start ..
hot rod ford f1

$4450 - San Antonio - It runs! I see paint in your future.
1951 Ford F1 V8 AUTOMATIC

Have fun picking out your truck Ron!

This is a great project truck, the F3's are hard to find. I bought the truck a few years back and planned on restoring it. The engine was pulled and restored to working condition, all new brake lines and master cylinder were installed, sandblasted from the cab back, and many other things. There is no glass in the cab and the windshield frame has rust that needs to be repaired. This truck is unique because the original bed was removed and a dump body was installed. The previous owner told me that the dump body came off of a Model-A but I have not confirmed that. The bed dumps by turning the wheel on the passenger side (see pictures below). The gas tank was pulled and restored and I had the bench seat completely reupholstered. The truck has been sitting for a few years and the brake drums have seized up and it probably will not run. Also, feel free to contact me if you would like to see more pictures.

If you buy a rusted out start for 3000.:
The basic repair panels and reproduction body parts will cost >5000.00 plus installation.
So if you are a skilled bodyman you will have 8000. plus a minmum of 2 years work invested just to get to what you you could get for 5-6K plus 1K shipping and 100.00 worth of sandpaper to sand off the surface rust and old paint in the SW. That doesn't include all the small misc parts and/or any chassis repair/replacement that are likely to be needed.
How long are you (and especially your S/O) willing to wait to drive your project while you tie up your shop/garage, and keep sinking time and money into it? Should you get tired of the project before finishing it, The unfinished basket case will not likely ever recover the cash investment, whereas the rust free one is much more valuable at any stage of completion.
