Hey Guys, I have an exhaust question.

I recently acquired a 96 F150 5.8l supercab w/long bed 4x4. I have been looking for a cat back system to put on and am having trouble finding one that lists my wheelbase and will surely work with my dual gas tanks. Looked on Amazon at the dynomax kit but a reviewer said they had to fab around the rear tank and there was no list for my wheelbase. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance! Oh. Looking for a good outside sound with little to no drone inside cab. Thanks again.

Welcome! I personally don't care for clamp together systems. Pick out your muffler, pipe size, tip, etc., and have a reputable shop build the system for you.

If you're going to redo your exhaust 2 times in 2 years, that's moronic. Why waste money and do it over again? I'm with 882tank on this, pick out what muffler you want, what size pipe and tell a shop how you want it done. Clamp on exhausts are prone to leaking and aren't worth it.

theres nothing wrong with a bolt on kit if done right. SUM-684455 this is the part number a buddy of mine used on his supercab longbox but he had to add about 1 foot of pipe for the longbed

Make sure you're ok with losing your spare tire. The summit kit note says "This exhaust system will not fit vehicles with auxiliary fuel tanks. Spare tire must be permanently removed for exhaust system installation"

One of the best inventions ever made for exhaust systems:

Summit Racing SUM-692250 - Summit Racing® Band Clamps

No leaks, re-usable, reasonable price.

The spare tire is one of my concerns. The system i got for my '92 i had to remove the tire and then run the exhaust thru the tire hanging assembly. The exhaust ran close to the back side of it and i was able to put the tire back on. I drew a rather crude drawing but you guy should know what i mean.

I've never seen a kit that didn't work with the spare tire. A receiver hitch can be a problem with some. It would probably cost the same to buy the Dynomax muffler and have a good shop put it on and route the tailpipe how you want it. It will probably fit nicer too.

We can thank Lemforder for this design ( European OE exhaust system manufacturer). It makes a leak proof connection and it allows for the pipes to be separated years later without any damage. I'll never understand why domestic manufacturers won't embrace this design.

My $.02: Find a reputable exhaust shop and get a quote. Might not be as bad as you think.

FWIW, on my 89 Std Cab long bed, I used the Summit brand exhaust. It went right in to the stock location no problem, but I wasn't overly pleased with the tone. It was actually quieter than the stock muffler, IMO, and my OEM one wasn't rotten by any means. I'm not sure how they account for the length variance in Std Cab vs Ext Cab, but they're Tech Support people are usually pretty good at answering those sorts of things.

I think I paid $250ish for the system, shipped. The annoying part is that, when I took it to the shop to have them weld up the joints (optional), the muffler guy scoffed and said he could've fabbed up something way better with a brand name muffler for less. Oh well. Live and learn.

I used a Gibson cat back on my F250. Initially had ordered a Summit kit but it turns out my truck has the HD suspension and the Summit branded kit wouldn't work. Summit gave me a great deal on the Gibson and it fit like a glove. A little louder than stock and never annoying.

Those band clamps are cool, but from my experience they are not quite 100% leak proof.
