another vote for a 5w40 for the injectors. Looking forward to trying some ester based Redline 5w40 next change.

Up here in Canada 15W40 is only recommended if doing a large amount of towing in temperatures above 30 C (86F). 5W40 covers it all. If you are going to be in a really cold spell, 0W40 is also an option. I'm gonna have to dig up that letter. I actually do my oil changes every 5000KM (3100 Miles). Have always done that, with every vehicle I own.

In my 7.3L I always changed the oil at 3,000 miles and fuel at 10K. It has 261K on the original injectors and HPOP. So it makes a huge difference having good clean oil in these motors, I just go through a lot of it.

ford changed the heavy use service interval to 7500 km with fuel filters at 15000 about 3 years ago. We have a total of 15 liters to change. So it's pretty expensive with synthetic. However, if I was using Dino, might stay at 5000 especially if issuing 10w30 in winter.

The turbo heat is another reason I use the 5W40. Synthetic will not coke as easily as dino oil. Not saying dino is bad, just my preference and logic.

There is a cost to this in terms of oil change costs. I am changing at 7500 km or 5000 miles on the button. My truck has all original except batteries, tires, shocks, windshields, just over 100k miles. I think the synthetic is really a lot better on cold starts, cold weather, and still provides all the towing protection at any temperature.
Once you get to -40 Fahrenheit and celsius become the same thing and after that Fahrenheit becomes the larger number again. -45c is -49f

I think at that point, it doesn't really make a difference between 0W40 or 5W40. 15W40 and 10W30 will both be hard as a rock.

I live just down the road from ya in Ft. Smith. Since moving here I've run 15w40 in the summer and 5w40 in the winter although this past "winter" I could have run 15 the whole time. Injectors just like the 5w40 MUCH better. I know zhilton runs the mystic in his 6.0 year round.

I dont need to be in -40F anyways.

Yep Ft Smith just right down the road, I grew up in Warner. We've had a very mild winter this year.
