Just put a 4" MBRP exhaust on it and trying to figure out what is causing my truck to want to shift itself into 4wd. Just picked up the relays today and plan on switching those out this weekend along with an oil change, coolant filter and fuel filters.
I don't know how you went over a month without having some serious Powerstroke Withdrawl Symptoms
I didn't start mine for a week, but saw it everyday, that alone was hard enough
i went a month without mine when i was fighting with the warranty company about what was covered in the full vehicle warranty when my AC compressor exploded..

ESOF, you wouldn't need much electronically for 4wd with a lever.
i was asking cuz i once had a manual t-case that would slip from 2wd for 4hi due to worn out gears... wasnt sure what the relays he picked up were for either..

It is ESOF. The relays are what there to tell the selector motor to shift from 2HI to 4HI and 4HI to 4LO once the switch on the dash is changed. I basically trying with the cheapest parts first. I already ruled out the T-case by disconnecting the power to the selector motor and the problem went away. So now its either down to the relays, selector motor, switch on the dash or the GEM.

cool.. can understand that.. what i was meaning by the post with the relays was that i wasnt sure if you bought them for the t-case issue or there was another problem you were going after too since you were doing other maint at the same time.. hope itll just be a relay issue for you..

no worries man. I am hoping it is just the relays also. This problems has been kicking my *** for almost 3 weeks. At first it felt and sounded like the front axle. So I went through it and couldn't find anything except some seized caliper guide pins. So at least I found that in this process and not down the road somewhere.
i always manage to find other things in the process of fixing something else... i still need to pull the driverside front axle and replace the ujoint there before i need the 4wd again.. i almost cant turn the wheel anymore when its engaged because of that one...

I recall reading about a GEM module that can get water in it from a common leak spot on drivers side windshield -- causes logic symptoms like yours when it shorts out various contacts. When something is doing "its own thing", as in uncommanded, I'd suspect the GEM...
1,600 miles so far on our 2 week camper vacation with friends. Minnesota to New Mexico. Stopped in Colorado at NRA Whittington Center aka 33,000 acres of shooting ranges. What a day plus up to Pikes Peak. That's my son with a 20 gauge shooting clays.
It's Bad job it takes about 2 hours, take everything out put it back in, the hardest thing is getting the fan off, but if you have a BIG wrench it not that bad either.
