Gave up on my u joint for now, was being a pain. I found my clunk though...my traction bar brackets were loose. That solved my clunk turning and taking off

Came back from my trip. Saturday April 25th to Today, 5 solid days of ATV riding, plus 2 days of Las Vegas fun.

2100 miles total.

1st leg to Green River 21 mpg
2nd Leg Green River to Mesquite 17 mpg
All the MISC trips 18 mpg
1st leg Mesquite to Green River 16.5 mpg
2nd leg Green River to Home 22.8 mpg

Mishimoto t-stat I have mixed feelings about. For the most part it held 201 ECT, occasionally would hit 203 and sometimes drop to 199.

However......

Right outside of Green River Westbound is a 30mph 20 mile construction zone, all upgrade (6%?) The ECT spiked to 207, fan was commanded to 74% and brought the ECT back down to 201-203.

All thoughout Nevada, Utah and Arizona ATV's in tow and ambient 95+ the ECT remained 201-203. No issues there.

Return trip climbing Vail I-70 Eastbound, 65+ mph the ECT again spiked to 208, and fan was commanded on. Same thing happened again just before the Tunnels, 208 ECT and the fan kicked on. This was only with an ATV in the bed, ambient was in the high 60s low 70s.

I could definitely see an issue with the Mishi 200 stat and pulling a good sized load up those grades. IIRC with the old Motorcrafts the ECT would top out about 200-204 up those same grades, same speeds and same ATV in the bed.

Interesting.

Under 75 to get the high numbers, I-15 is 80mph hence the lowered mpg

Sweet spot for me is 68-72 mph

Did some retuning on the 6.0.

Went from the Atlas 40 and SRL Extreme to the Econo FICM tune and SRL+ on a backdated strategy. So far so good on the mileage improvement, but I'll see what it does on two tanks,.

Speaking of brakes!
I think i have something bound up somewhere. My EGTs are high and I smelled burning brakes yesterday. Now while I don't smell brakes anymore, my EGTs are still too high. I'm gonna adjust the parking brake and check all the pads tonight.

Wish me luck!

Grease all your pins and pad holders at the same time. Friday I found a frozen pin in mine and had a heck of a time removing it. Also your year has the unibearings that can be lubed through the abs hole. May be a good time to do so. RiffRaff makes a zerk for this. First time I just shoved the grease gun in there and pumped it up and spun the bearing.

Dropped the Silverbullet off at the doctors again. Getting a coolant filter installed and a coolant flush. And my mechanic is getting me a new FICM half shell for free! Can't wait for it to be done.

Thanks for the info!

I just greased my bearings on the front a few months ago. Had to replace an ABS cable after too. Do the back ones have that too?

I know my issue is with the right rear parking brake. I took the temp of all the rotors before and after a 45 minute drive and that one was 60° hotter than all the others, especially on the drum portion of it. Plus the wear in there and the smell was a dead give away, plus my cable is pinched and split.

I think they're original, so I'm going to replace that cable and the shoes. All other pads and pins are good.

^ I have not seen any thing where the rears require greasing like the front uni-bearings. Interesting your rears need to be replaced. Are they over tight or is everything just frozen? Can you please take some pictures when you jump into it.

I haven't either, but you never know. In my searching last night, however, I learned I'll need to pull the hubs to do the parking breaks and i can replace the bearings at the same time.

Ya, that's what's bugging me too. Nothing seems like it's bound up, I loosened the parking brake all the way down and it's still dragging (slight load on engine and hotter rotor after driving). Maybe it's the bearing then, IDK.

Speaking of brakes...Mine are acting incredibly weird. Leaving class today, the brakes were so good I almost put myself through the windshield. An hour later I had my foot to the floor trying to stop coming off the highway (at a very reasonable rate of deceleration)...wtf? I have all new ford pads and rotors and 2 front calipers 2 years ago, maybe 35k on them...checked like a month ago and everything is operating smoothly. This truck has always had poor braking power but now it's just being weird...
