Need idea for mega fuse holder

Hey everybody i just got my 3G alternator today and evidently this requires the 175a megafuse. ive found holders online but i dont want to mess with that.
i'd rather make one myself so if anyone has a solution or another way/different type of fuse for the power wire properly?

Im thinkin of just using a plastic project box as a housing and just letting the fuse "be" in there with cable ends bolted to it for now

Do yourself a favor and buy a bussman mega fuse holder. It's relatively cheap, safe and secure. Those fuses are not meant to hold any kind of weight or pull. If the battery end gets loose and you have direct to ground contact your battery becomes a bomb.

Here's an idea: Use a small Tupperware-like container and set the lug bolts (properly spaced!) in a pool of fast-setting epoxy. After it is set, drill some drain holes, slots for the cables, and drill a couple of mounting holes. Slap the cover on and yer done. Painting it is an option!

I chose not to shadetree my 3G systems. Here's a pic of Delcity.net's $8.54 fuseholder .... Worth it IMO.

If your battery came with a plastic handle you could get super ghetto and drill two holes into that and mount the megafuse with bolts.

Or if you have a plastic battery box you could use the exterior to bolt the megafuse too.

looks like that delcity has the cheapest option, most ive found are 10-13 bucks, still not a bad buy i just want to get er done tomorrow instead of waiting on shipping, ive even tried my best to buy locally, nobody carries anything. oreillys carries littelfuse now, which the company offers one just like yours HIO, and bussman offers one i like better but autozone couldn't come up with it. I checked lowes and ace too.

My idea was like what you said, but radioshack has some neat "project boxes" that i think are big enough, have a screw on cover, i could even hide mounting screws inside so all that will be seen is cable and a clean black box, which would match what ive done for tailight wiring too.

Im gonna try the epoxy idea i think that will keep it solid ill have to post up how i end up doing this
Thanks for the help

STINGER MIDI STYLE CAR STEREO WATER PROOF FUSE HOLDER | eBay

Stinger makes a waterproof one. A local stereo shop should have one.

I like the idea of not having to carry and use another tool just to open the holder... With my luck I'd lose the screw and the screwdriver. The Delcity holder a lanyard and a snap-on cover.

Btw, there is still shipping costs so make it worth your while.... I ordered up like a dozen spools of primary wire in different gauges and colors, extra megafuses, connectors, terminals, etc. .. I also treated myself to a large Weather-Pak connector kit which makes wiring jobs totally porno...

husker, i did think about using audio parts as a solution too, im gonna check with the shops in town on that option, the fuse itself might have an availability issue.

I have a super B.A. Maxi style fuse holder but havent found a maxi with near high enough rating

HIO, you and i would definitly get along, i hope i dont give a bad impression with the way i try to DIY things, I too enjoy electrical awesomeness

I'm sure we would.

Nope, not a bad impression at all. I dig DIYers so long as there is decent workmanship and ingenuity. "Hacking" is neither ingenious nor a sign of acceptable workmanship... it's just laziness or being an ultra-cheapskate.

Yeah, one of my best buddies is a "hacker" i could smack him soo hard he'll get a speedin ticket.

Oh by the way the electric fan i did is working great! keeps the temp gauge just over halfway, and the shroud hides the fact that it and the wiring are even there.

You have to go into the store and order it, and they will have it later that day or the next day.

My personal opinion is the fuse isn't "that" important... Drive the truck until you hook up the fuse.
