Rear Axle Seal Leaking

On my e99 F350 the rear axle seal is leaking and causing the brake to be wet.

I started to disassemble the hub but found that there is a special nut holding the hub on to the axle housing.

I have the tool but do not know if the racheting nut has a locking tab or what. I do not want to brake something by wrenching on it.

My parts supplier thinks the axle is a Ford unit but wants the old seal to make sure.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've never messed with those seals yet so I'm fairly clueless myself. I wonder if this link would be helpful

Hope this helps.

I just posted this to another poster the other day, check your vent tube nipple, it may be clogged, mine was and my axle seal was leaking, luckily I haven't had to tear it apart yet on my 2004, I cleared the clog and the problem has gone away, good luck

Push in with the socket when turning the nut.

Axle Seal

Well that worked fine until I went to bleed the brakes and the bleed port broke off the left hand brake.

Now I am putting a replacement unit on and hoping that the one on the right hand brake doesn't break off.
