98 f150 4.6 catalytic converter help and question PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2012 8:01 am
Since iv had the truck for about a year now i have had no cats on it, due to them getting clogged up and burning every valve in the heads. Anyways my question is what year truck(s) would the catalytic converters match with mine? Im planning on going to pick a part or something to hopefully find some and get them put on, so i can finally pass smog.
Its a 4.6L 2WD
And also would ones fit from an expedition?
Thanks

Wow no kidding I never new that.. Thanks for the tip.. Saved me a trip .. That's good but bad news for me, guess I need to suck it up and buy either the 50 state magnaflow cats or hopefully find somebody that's possibly parting there truck out..
If I'm looking on Craigslist what year f150 would I look for ? 97-03? And are there any other vehicles like an expedition 4.6 or something?

Are you in California?
The Ford cat assemblies are very specific if you want the complete assemblies. To get a match you need to find the exact year, engine, emission compliance, drivetrain, etc. You might be able to use one from a different year, but again, only if it meets all the same other criteria. Most people won't even know what they have anyway, so sorting through ads isn't gonna help you narrow your search much.
If you cats are plugging, you have a problem, they don't plug themselves. The exhaust valves should not burn either. A clogged catalytic converter is caused by a severe tuning problem with the engine. Trying to find cats you can put on this truck is completely pointless until you get that situation resolved.
