Ya, ill probably just build the tabs myself to save some cash.

We will be about an hour inland of Tijuana. Im very familiar with the drive. This will be the 6th doing this trip and i lived in Mexico for a few years. Just want to make sure the old truck is ready to be loaded with around 17k pounds between the bed, cab, and trailer.

Do you ever visit Bend? If so the next time your up here we need to grab a beer!

I just left Bend actually. Was up there the 29th-6th. I was meaning to call Pete & another "truck buddy" from up there but never had time due to the short trip & constant itinerary with the in-laws. We should be headed back up for the 4th of July this year I think so that may be a good time to grab that beer. All the guys are 70's Ford guys and you 3 all live up there so it could be a good meet up for sure!

Ya, i understand how that goes. I talk to Pete fairly often. Hes definitely a good guy. There are a lot of 70's Ford guys up here for sure. Its funny, most all of my family lives down in Huntington Beach and its looking like i will end up working in LA in the next three years.

In-laws are in HB & my wife grew up there. We're currently looking at houses in that area too. It's a bit crowded down this way & I'd love to move to a place like Bend, but I doubt I could find work out of the local area here that would support a family, so I'm stuck here for the time being.

Love the build, looks sexy! We need some updates!
Did you just center your motor and tranny and mark where the engine mounts were to go? And jus go from there. Basically how did you decide, ok this is where itssitting in the frame, front back side side.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Speaking from my experience, you will find that Ford does not run their powertrain centered, but actually to the passenger side by about 4". There are plenty of ways to figure out you location, I chose to measure centerlines based on the original setup. You can do that many ways as well. I generally will have the motor sitting where I expect it to be, then make up the mounts to fit that.

Thanks for the kind words BIGS003. Fellro is right. I measured the centerline on the stock setup and put the cummins in the same place so the shifters and drive lines would line up better.

Here are some recent pics of the truck:

Well good deal. Im currently working on getting a 97 7.3 powerjoke for my 78 supercab. I was planning on measuring how it sat in the 97 side to side and angle of tranny and comparing measuring how my 400 sits in my truck before getting crazy.

But enough about myproject. What future plans do you have for the crew jcarrick?

The 7.3 will be nice for sure.

Eventually a full restoration, but that is a long ways off. Right now im gonna do superduty heated seats, twin turbos, injectors, built head, d60 front, a newer rear end of some sort (undecided right now), really nice stereo (which i have almost everything for), and then just some maintenance stuff like window seals etc.

Actually, measuring the 97 is irrelevant to how it will sit in the older truck. You need to use the relation of how it sits in the truck it is going in to.
