installing factory bed extender

I bought the bed extender off my uncles '05 lariat and I got the pivot bolts, but I went to put the bolts on my truck and the middle hole isn't threaded. It has like a metal bushing in there, do I need to tap the hole or what? Also what is the bottom hole for?

I did similarly, and as I recall, the pivot bolts were self-tapping. The bottom hols is for locking (pinning) the extender in place when inthe extended position. You need the plastic gromments for the top and bottom holes to fit the locking pins.

I took my bed extender out. None of the holes were threaded. It only had locking pins that held them in place. You can take it on and off withing a minute and no tools are needed.
