94 IDI Turbo Blowby Help
Hi ya'll! This is my first post to the forum and new to diesels. It seems like there is a lot of good info here! I'm looking to purchase a 94 F250 IDI Factory Turbo. Took it by the Ford dealer and they said the engine was junk because of blowby. It seemed to run well. Got it on the interstate at 70+ and was fine. It either has 350K miles on it (body does) or 200K (current owner said previous owner rebuilt at 150K but has no papers for it). I took the video below of the blowby as well as the exhaust. The truck will mainly be used on a farm and for towing from time to time. Not a daily driver. Price seems good too. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

your profile shows VA.
i just looked around on craigslist and found much nicer trucks.some for less.
how long have you been looking for an idi truck? how many have you looked at so far?
this one is the old brick nose,but i bet its twice the truck for example;
1989 Ford F-250 extended cab 4X4
by the sounds of your description, the one your looking at needs 1k just for starts (realistically, she needs 2-3 and then what do you have? a fixed up 350k mile worn out truck.)
well, for another 1k on the price look what you could start with:

there are a lot of these trucks out there.dont limit yourself.explore many of them.fuel is going not only through the roof, but up in the freaking clouds now.people will be ditching trucks cheap again.even though we may not like it.deals will be out there on good trucks well worth fixing.

I just bought a used 94, that was an "old ranch truck", that was supposed to be in good shape. I am at least $1500.00 in parts in repairs. Starter, master cylinder, fuel return line kit, brakes, u joints, bearings and seals in the front end, etc..... There is a list just as long that needs attention that I have not done yet. I do all the work myself so I save a few bucks. Just a heads up, if you buy an old truck they are pretty easy to work on but you will be working on it to keep it on the road. My truck only has 155,000 miles on it too. Just some food for thought. Good Luck!

Thanks a million folks! I think I'll pass on this one and keep looking. FordF250HDXLT, I've looked at a couple others but they were all rusted out. Thanks for passing those craigslist finds along. I might check them out soon. I'll post what I find and in the mean time keep reading the forums. This place is great.

Hey guys! This is my truck that was for sale. Sorry that ya'll think its done. She's been a good truck to me and she still pulls strong and tows strong at 350k. If it didnt need some (glow plugs, controller, relay, possible injector pump soonish) work done to it then I would keep it but for now I just have my eggs in too many baskets and living in an apartment complex thats hard to do... NTM Im wanting to move up to 37's and 5.13's gears in my Jeep which is the main reason Im wanting cash offers on this. I already have the gears but have to pay for the labor still.

sorry there Mman, but she doesn't sound or look too healthy.thats a lot of miles for your asking price. as you can see,you can buy trucks with much, much less miles that are likely not in need of an engine yet (which yours sadly probably is)for this same money.
it's your truck and you know what you need for it.best of luck and no disrespect.
if it helps any,my truck would not even come close to bring in what i feel she's worth to me either.id never try.people would just laugh lol.
did you time her by ear? i think she's very advanced.that's pretty hard on her internals.or is all that extra loud rattle just poor audio in the vid? it sounds pretty bad.

If anybody in the area would like to swing by and give the truck a look over that would be cool to give me a better idea of what its worth. Honestly the only reason Im selling it is because I need tires and gears for my Jeep and I live in an apartment. Between my Jeep, my wifes Honda and the truck I am just up to my eyeballs trying to keep them all up and I dont have a garage to do the work in nor the money to keep all three maintained much less built. My main passion is my Jeep which is where all my wrench time goes and most of that is in the apartment parking lot which is pretty hard to do.
I just dont see how the motor can be so bad off if it still runs good, pulls well and tows good like it is. My Jeep weighs in over 5000lbs and it tows it great. Cant even tell its back there until I get to a hill and it still pulls strong. Maybe Im just an idiot but it seems to be in fair condition to me.
Im not saying ya'll dont know what you're talking about but 2000$ for a truck that has a solid frame and a decent body with a running motor and 35's seems like a good price to me.
