Oil filter threads messed up on 6.9 ?
I took my truck in for a lift pump replacement and since it was due for a oil change I had them do that too. 5000 mile later I went to remove the filter and guess what? I loosened it with a filter wrench and started to take it off by hand and it stopped after a few turns. I put the wrench on it and couldn't get it off. I took it back to the dealer and I guess the threads had been crossed some how. They cleaned them up with a die I guess but every time I take the filter off it's hard to remove and replace. I'm sick of it and want to replace this piece.. I assume that's the oil cooler I see that looks like a tube that runs down the side of the engine from where the oil filter screws on. Do I have to remove the hole thing or just part of it? The fellow at the parts store says it's called a oil filter adapter. Is it hard to replace? I'm not sure what I need to do. I've read a few posts about oil in coolant and coolant in oil and don't want to go there. Thanks
P.S. I'm tempted to buy a die and see if I can clean up the threads. Any Idea what size die I would need?

It is 1.5-16 ... That is one and a half inches with 16 threads per inch.
Unfortunately it is cast into the oil cooler head ... new they are like $350.
If you can't clean up the threads your best bet is to get a complete oil cooler from a salvage yard and rebuild it before installing.
If you get a used one to rebuild, ask here how to do it, there are tricks and tips.
-Enjoy

Finding a die that size and threads per inch will probably be difficult and expensive. If you have a really small triangle or other thin file, you might be able to touch up the bad spots by hand.
A quick google search turns up nothing useful.
Another option is to install a remote/bypass filter setup, like the amsoil unit oreo has on his truck. I can't remember the cost, but its probably close to replacing the oil cooler, plus added functionality.
