I got my first slick
I just got a 64 short bed custom cab I love it!
I uploaded some photos to my gallery. It is a clean truck the previous owner put a 289 and a C4 they put a mustang floor shifter. So I need to do some work. I was hoping that someone could advise me on the C4. The shifter is backwards I think that the arm needs moved to the top but when I tried to unbolt the arm on the transmission, the arm would not come off. How does that arm come off? Also for some reason, there is no park.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you</O>
Here is the info on the truck.

Welcome to the slicks. You fall more in love with it everyday.
One question concerning the C4. Is it possible that you have a reverse shift pattern? I notice in the picture the shifter looks like it is sitting in neutral with the parking brake on but backwards. If 1st gear is all the way forward then it's a reverse patern. Check out the transmission forum for more info covering the C4. I have a C6 and my transmission arm needed to be cut off for the B&M shifter lever. It may come down to installing a different shifter to get park back. But the Tranny forum will have a better answer.

Nice find with alot of potential to boot. As Mark stated; check with the trans forum; also there's a different in a car & truck lever as well. I would first disconnect the linkage on the side of the trans. With the truck not running, I would try to manually shift with your hand to each gear. Have vehicle in e-brake and even flat surface to do this. "Safety Safety" Try and see if the lever will go into park with out your linkage connected and then find reverse, neutral, drive, etc. This will help you understand the issue you got at hand.
Theres numerous companies selling shifters and as Mark mention you could go that route.
Hope this helps ya. And Welcome to the Slick World.....

You may end up dropping the oil pan to take a peek at the internals. Did you find anything out on the transmission forums? I did a little searching for some valve body pics and found this rebuild. It may or may not help with what you are looking for.
