Lift v.s. tire size

Im ordering the 4in lift kit from Rough country for my 94 F350 7.3 4x4, they recommend a 35x12.5 tire, I did some measuring and im pretty sure I could clear a 37x12.5. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on this? Id hate to order the tires and have to mess with sending them back for smaller ones. Thanks.

I have seen F350s of this vintage clear 35" tires without ANY lift, and just shimming/shaving the bumper. I am positive that you could clear 37x12.5 tires with a 4" lift. You will probably want 10" wide rims with a backspacing of 4" or less though so it doesn't rub.

Thanks. Im looking at a set of 17x9 pro comp steel wheels, ill have to dig a bit deeper and find the backspacing measurement. I know alot of times lift companies under estimate tire sizes for thier lifts, just never hurts to ask around.

You need to keep in mind if you will be flexing the truck off road at all. Just because you can get them in the well doesn't mean much. If you plan on taking the truck offroad you could contact sheetmetal. Tearing up the truck and your tires leaving you stranded somewhere and several hundred down for a new tire. Plus the wider tire will rub lengthening your turn radius. If it is simply all show and no go and it fits by all means.

Look into a locker set up then. These will help. If primarily a streeter with weekend excursions a detroit true trac, it is what I used to run and its a good all around with not much to break. I beat the snot out of them and they took it all. The do lock up hard.
A locker will get you much farther than just a 2" bigger tire.
