What wire is this???

I was changing my fuel filter and fuel drain valve and noticed this bare wire that was looped up and taped. It appears that it goes to the passenger bank of the engine but I do not know where, there is not a slot for it where it would go under the valve cover. I have a '99 f350 210K miles

Heres the link to photobucket to view the wire in question

From what I can see it looks like a glow plug wire... There should be nothing cut off in the UVC harnesses. All are needed.

My guess is that its a grounding or some type of shield wire. As current passes through the wires it created EMI (electromagnetic interference). This could be used to shield that from getting out affecting other sensors or from getting in causing issues with the injector firing.

Nice find Roland. Wonder why no one else has seen this? I'm talking about the wire, not the PDF.

I personally haven't seen it. Mine is hidden inside the wire loom. I guess his just "exposed" itself.

It is shielding to prevent cross firing

Since all four injector drive voltages of each bank are all contained within the same shield, I'd rather think that's not the reason. If cross-firing were a problem, this arrangement would only make it worse.

I suspect that our ability to hear the radio would be severely compromised if they weren't there. There's 120 volts of square wave inside those shields that's trying to emit all kinds of EMI/RFI (Google "an infinite number of odd harmonics" for an explanation).

Heck, the guy in the next lane over in traffic couldn't hear his radio, either!

Remember that the windshield motor "hash" noise sometimes confuses the CPS signal. Can you imagine what higher-voltage square wave emissions would do?

There are plenty of other digital signals that our trucks need to operate that would also be compromised (OSS, TSS, VSS, ABS, etc.) as well.

Even trucks have to pass FCC radio-frequency emissions tests.
