hanging transmission filter

hello;

I was wondering if a transmission filter that hangs down would have the same impact as one that fell off.

I had lost reverse, but regained it, only to lose drive the following week.

I do have a form of drive but I lack any form of power on even the slightest inclines.

I removed my transmission pan and noticed that the filter was hanging down, and was wondering if this was perhaps the cause of losing drive.

Thank you,

econobug

did you check the fluid level before you pulled the pan? low fluid could cause this.
i haven't studied the e4od, but many trannys have the filter almost touching the pan anyway, so having it loose would only be 1/8" lower and still getting fluid into the system.

Thank you both for your responses.

Yes, joshofalltrades, I did check the level. It was okay.

And, blageurt, I shall get a new filter, hopefully today, from a Ford dealership. The filter in the van, is not a Ford product, but is identical in all respects. I shall probably get the clip for the filter also.

I shall let all know if this cured my problem.

Thanks again,

econonbug.

hello again;

Just called the local Ford dealership. The filter costs $58.00 and change. The gasket costs $20.00 and change. They have the magnet that goes between the filter and pan to stop it from hanging. It is $12.00 and change.

I shall get the magnet to hold the filter in place, and take it from there.

Again, thanks.

hello again;

the Ford dealership did not have the magnet after all. For those who are interested, it is p/n YS7Z7E290AA.

They told me it would take 4-5 days to arrive at a cost of $45-$49. (I heard the sound of forty and I forgot the rest).

Anyway, I picked up the Ford transmission filter. They gave it to me for $48.00.

I hope this is the cure.

Shall keep all informed.

Just find a magnet at a hobby shop that is the needed thickness and install it, that's robbery.
