Gee Wiz - 1995 ranger dome lights, door switch etc

Greetings and thanks for any help. Searched though fordtrucks as well as other places and cant find exact answer for my situation.

Can someone who has a 1995 ranger or close tell me:

1 - first photo is of dash lighting controls - shows a "whirl ****" marked "dim" - besides brightening or diming dash, when I turn **** all the way up is that only supposed to control "bed light shown in photo # 3 ? Thats the only thing it is doing now - is that right?

2 - The only way to turn on my dome lights (photo 2) is to switch them on at the dome lights - I assume they should also come on when I open the door - is that right?

3 - If they should come on when I open the door - how is it wired? I have door panel off and dome light off. I have 12v power coming into the plug that is at the door latch (i assume that when door is closed 12v does not go up to light but when door is open switch should let 12v go to dome light) A - if i jump switch or put 12v direct power to wire leaving switch still no dome light comes on. Seems wire from switch to dome might be disconnected or bad - question though is at dome I only see 2 wires - would that be 12v direct power to the switch at the dome and 2nd wire being 12v from door?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!! Benn trying to figure out off and on for months - this is how I got it from last owner.

did more work and found more info. From photo above screw marked 1 is 12v direct for switch on dome light itself. Screw marked 2 is ground. # 3 is where screw is missing but think is supposed to be from door open/closed circuit.

This screw was missing and I assume previous owner took it out because when I put screw in lights stay on all the time with doors open or closed - any ideas?? tHANKS FOR ANY HELP.

well first replace the screw in the dome light. what i did to solve this was to spray electronics cleaner into the dimmer switch and work the switch up/down and through the click stop at the top. then drench the door switch with wd-40 and slam the door hard repeatedly. that cured the dome light/door ajar light on all the time problem. good luck.

not sure i understand. Have both door panels off and plug disconnected from the door 12v dome switch. if i jump or leave plug open the dome light stays on. The dim switch on dash (i thought) only controls the rear bed light and when I roll dimmer all the way up the bed light goes on fine. Is it also supposed to control the dome light?

thanks again for any help.

well i would say reconnect everything and try method in previous post. could be though that your door switches are kaput...
yes the dimmer switch click stop at the top of its travel also turns on the dome light. they get corroded in there from
lack of use, so that's why the electronic cleaner and working the switch sometimes solves this problem.

Yes, the dim switch turns the dome & bed light on when its rotated fully up until it clicks into the ON position.

Make sure you've replaced the missing screw in the dome lamp.

Then to check to see if the door latch switches are working after spraying with WD-40, be sure to rotate the Dimmer down, so it clicks out of the "on" position.
