Buying high mileage truck

I want to buy a 2004 F350 with the 6.0 diesel. It has 100,000 miles on it.

What should I look for and stay away from in buying a used diesel? I have not owned a diesel truck before.

Thanks,

I would ask this question down in the 6.0 forum. Take a look at the sticky threads at the top. Lots of research and reading to be done before you by a 6.0, especially a 04. Just take a look, great trucks just need to be very meticulous with maintaence.

Just keep in mind that some 6.0l owners will dump their trucks after they are out of warranty to avoid the future liability that is the 6.0l engine...
Bought mine with 112k out of warranty, turned out later to have some injector problems

Read through this:

Also, when you go shopping for a used 6.0L, you need to take a long a Scangauge II or Edge Insight, or, if you have a android phone, a torque APP.

Check ECT vs EOT

Don't let them start the truck until you get there.
At cold, check the FICM

When you find that truck, you will have gauges for it.

Have fun shopping.

What is this "app" you speak of? What does it do? Anyone know if they have an app like that for iPhones?

I bought my 2004 with 158000 mile on it. It was stock. It runs great, My spread on my scanguage EOT & ECT is only 5* difference. I dont think that I could have gotten a better truck. Just make sure you maintain it properly when you are supposed to. I love my 6.0

No kidding. I wouldn't consider 100k to be high mileage for a well maintained gasser...let alone a diesel.
