oh no kidding? the radius sure is awful.it's the D50 setup compared to the D60? is the D60 a wider axle or whats the story?

Thanks for all you input guys. Exactly what I was looking for info wise. I just waant to find the best bang for the buck truck I can. I did find a 1997 F250 with the 7.3 auto cc shortbed 4x4 for 7k that has 209k miles. Just kind of in the dark about what is good or not.

The dana 60 just turns the tires that much further, giving to a tighter turning radius

The CCSB you speak of is an "rare" truck and that is a pretty good deal if it doesnt need too much work

thanks Brad.i didn't know that advantage.

any known history on the E40D trans in the '97 Oval?
if not, you'd have to pretty much plan on a replacement trans during your ownership of that one, if you feel she's original w/ 200k (the odds of course are much greater than one with 7k.)
i did the short bed thing last truck.never again.
so you found a latter engine, but you downsized beds, lost the D60 for the D50,gained more miles, lost a fresh trans, you did gain a couple yrs but hardly worth bragging about since their all so old now and priced increased.
how's the body on the '97?

i see the '96
1996 Ford F-250 XL Crew Cab 4WD - Cars For Sale Salem, WI

oh man does that make me exited to see mine come home (shes in the paint shop right now. )

thats not a short bed is it?......yeah i guess it is.kinda tricky pic angles.
is that the right one? 206k miles, you said 209k.but thats the gal right? ......must be.it's their only f250 right now.
can't find the '94.

pretty sure '96 and '97 was the only 9th gen diesel trucks to get the short bed option.and '96 was the first year for the f250 crew cab option.
ford has yet to offer the f250 w/ dually option oddly.marketing i suppose.want ya to have to pay for that increased gvwr sticker.

yes i like it.the only concern i have would be the E40D with 210k.but clearly it's a truck worthy of a fresh rebuild sometime it's lifetime.it's almost a certainty so you would want to be prepared for that with a 3 grand min bank account devoted for it.
they didn't mention anything about a trans replacement already in the truck or anything? all info leads you to believe the trans is original correct?

be nice to see that '94 turbo idi truck with a fresh one already in there.
remember no proof though,then it's not $o.

I test drove the 96 F250 ccsb today. It rode great considering what it is, didn't pull to the side and seemed to get up and go pretty good. Its definitely not as powerful as the 05 I drove but never expected it to be. The only thing I question is the tranny, I am not very familar with the E4od so I m not sure what the shifts are supposed to feel like or what usually goes wrong with them .

I did a rough negotation with them and they dropped down to $6300 and could drop that down more with leaving the topper which I don't care about anyways. I still want to look for a bit and see if I can find a f350 that I would like for the same money.

does this one sport a turbo,or is she n/a?
these old gals sure are cheap (compared to the psd) to repair/tune,and very easy to work on.careful on the test run,you might be tempted to take her home.

you say she's a 4x4 crew cab?
i love my big truck. i get a lot of offers to buy him. but nope....not for sale. he doesnt go fast but he can pull a house down.

Well a friend of mine has a 94 F250, build date 6/94, with a Powerstroke engine and E4OD, and it is STOCK. Tranny is listed on the door and the engine code in the vin is for the 7.3 PSD. So I strongly question this comment...

That aside, both engines will eat a 460 at the pump, but a tuned-up 460 will pull with an IDI turbo and destroy an IDI non-turbo; the PSD out-pulls and gets better mileage, though it doesn't out-pull by much... at least not until the 99 year model.
