Large Tires

I don't know.... If you are looking to put 40's on a truck, you should atleast have somewhat of an idea on what gears, differentials, lift kit sizes needed, and how things work. With that said, I hope you aren't doing anything more than driving it on the street. Sorry if that came out wrong.

Big Tires
I'm running 38.5x14.50 with 10" steel rims. I have a 6" lift and 2" body lift to space up for cage to frame mounts. Gas milage wise, I've been getting 19-20mpg with my 7.3. 14 around town pulling a 10' tool trailer. I wish it was geared lower but that is bucks I don't have, I have the six speed manual trans so there is always low gear. They do spin when the turbo spools up. My opinion, form follows function. 36" or 37" would be as tall as I would go. Just getting in and out is an ordeal. But it looks cool?

On these trucks, at 8" of lift, you start having to drop some serious money, extending drivelines/brake lines/vacuum lines. Crossover steering is recommended at that point, pinion angles almost become too steep, etc. To me, it wasn't worth all that added expense so I ran a 6.5" lift with 37" Toyo's, perfect combo imo.
Wheel bearings and ball joints will need some extra attention as well, they wear out fast with the larger tires.
Since you have a diesel, you could get away with not regearing with 37's but you will definitely notice a loss in hp/tq.
What's your budget?

Big 'uns
Def looks cool!! I'm a young guy (not calling you old btw) so I can easily get in and out of it. I may stay with 37s, because I love to travel, not sure how it would be taking long road trips on the 40s? I went to a show last night guy had 10" lift and 40s. Seems like around here in the South, if its not 10" lift you are in a lowrider!! lol
