I've had nothing but the best of luck with mine. I bought them used when I was a teen and built my flathead the first time. The picture below is circa 1978. I'm pretty sure they're 1960's vintage.

The only advise I would give someone is to keep them cool. And if you're going to keep them 30 years like I have, you might install steel threads in the plug holes and use an anti-seize on the accessory bolts. (coil bracket, distributor hold-down, etc.) Steel and aluminum seem to want to bond permanently.

heads

I check out the flathead sites frequently, mostly the Fordbarn. From what I've heard on there, Offenhauser has had some quality control and availability problems. Edelbrook would probably be your better choice.

I agree. Considering Edelbrock's commitment to customer service, I don't see how you could go wrong.

I bought the Offenhauser heads and intake because they were used, available, and cheap in 1977.

Offy in '77 was great - it's only been the last 5 years or so that qc issues have come up.

I love aluminum heads, but I never got around to picking up a set - and have been running EAB iron heads on my merc flatty for about the same compression bump.
