to say that its electronic is not necessarily true. from what i've read about them, an electric solenoid controls a hydraulic valve that actually shifts it in and out, and it can be set up to be shifted either manually or automatically. for manual shifting, there would be absolutely no need for electronics, just a simple switch near the shifter or steering wheel, or a foot switch. for automatic shifting, i haven't looked into it much, but it probably uses a fairly simple controller

What is your opinion on them? I was also considering buying one of these for my rig. I usually drive about 250+ miles a week and would consider running more if the truck got better than 14-16 mpg. Also I don't really care about going faster I usually cruise at 70, but I would like to drop the RPM as the motor sounds like she is wound pretty tight.

the problem with the old C6 is not just a lack of over drive.it also lacks a clutch to lock the engine to trans directly.
a GV doesn't correct this issue.your still wasting too much fuel heating trans fluid instead of forward motion.
for the price, you could find a used E40D,and buy an aftermarket (easy to wire up,use, customize.) and be much further ahead.then you get 4wd whenever you need,od whenever you need,a locking connection, and a coast clutch.thats if you wanted to keep an auto.you might save $ buying a zf5 with a decent clutch.probably close to,if not more if you need a new clutch though.
they would work fine behind a 4sp,but again,it would just be cheaper to do the zf5 swap.
imho, they are over priced,or better built to put behind a truck that you put real towing gears in,already have the OD trans, and want to get your economy back.
example; putting one behind the zf5/e40d f-super duty trucks with their low gearing.now that would be worth buying one for 1k-1500.you'd have it all.low end grunt to tow a train, and reasonable cruising rpms for economy.
i would not buy one to put behind the C6.it only cures some of the problem for about the same money as an OD trans.or the same $ if buying new (if not more.)

Thanks y'all for the opinions. If I can find one cheap and get a manual switch for it, I might go with that. I'm trying to avoid electronics on this truck as much as possible. Not that I have anything against them, or an E4OD in good shape, I just don't want the hassle of having something break that I can't fix as I'm no electrical or tranny expert.
