HELP.....CEL light P0198 code

Got a check engine light so I pulled over scanned with AE, only thing was a P0198 engine oil temp sensor high output.
I looked under the hood to find what I believe is that sensor broke off of the hpop reservoir . Must have smacked it when I changed my hpop the other day.
Question is: how important is that sensor? Can i keep running without repercussions, or do need to find a new sensor before I keep trucking?.

It's not really that important Frank...just keep driving... You might need a new pigtail if it broke on the female side. Sorry your having problems just found my water pump is leaking today. 2 new batteries/alternator recently and I need to replace my ball joints. Always something hope you get it fixed.

PCM needs EOT for proper timing and fueling. No EOT the PCM should go into a default mode. What's the performance like?

I wouldn't run in a high performance tune without EOT.

Feels normal Robin, running on 60 tow. It's my lowest tune. I'm pulling the 5r too.
300 miles to go...

Thanks for the quick response Robin, ill pull the chip at the next rest area. 130 miles before I shut down for the night. I'll stop at Ford or International in the morning.

I didn't know you are on the road Frank. I would just throw it in stock tune. I wouldn't mess with the connection at the sensor. I guess you are going up north again?

I'm heading back to Nc for 8 weeks to finish this job. I don't have a stock tune on my chip, but its easy to pull.
90 more miles of interstate and I'm going to catch a nap, then 145 miles of two lane and im there in the am. I'll pass a Ford dealer and pick up that sensor. At least this new hpop woke my truck up, it pulls so much better.

I want to say that EOT default is way cold at engine start up and fully warmed up when running. As Robin said, fuel and timing are determined by EOT readings, so be gentle today. Since you're already warmed up and running you should be ok. In the morning, I'd let the truck sit and idle till it warms up before I tried towing the trailer anywhere. If you can drop the trailer and run to Ford/IH emtpy, let it warm up a little and then be gentle.

For someone who is supposed to be driving, you sure do seem to post a lot. Please tell me you're not playing on the computer / phone and driving at the same time.
