Extended Warranty Opinions??

Ive had my '08 for 7 months and love the truck except for the fact that Ive spent 1200.00 on a radiator and had and egr issue that may or may not be resolved yet. Ive got 76k on it and the 5yr/100k factory powertrain will be up this July. Ive got a certified pre-owned powertrain limited warranty good for 100k or July of 2013. What do you guys think of the ford extended service plans? I plan on keeping this thing for A LONG TIME - thats why i got a diesel. But the rad and the egr have me gun shy. I can get a warranty that covers all powertrain components as well as radiator problems for the next 3yr/48k miles for 2800.00. But I was told that I would have to make that decision before 80k miles or the truck would no longer be eligible. Any thoughts?!?

In my opinion you have to get at least the engine warranty ... I got mine and had a problem at 108k miles...bent push rod and broken rocker arms.... that would of cost over 6kfor pr more ...I never had a problem w the rad. Or the egr

Get the(Ford Ex Warranty ) that takes you to 200,000 miles. For me its only(Ford Ex Warranty) You can get any time before 100,000 miles 5 years. I had a motor go at 127,000 miles, replaced motor with no cost to me!

Agreed I am afraid the extra 2/100K is a mandatory warranty with the 6.4L's. Sitting at 97K and 4 months before the 5/100 is up and just trying to decide to delete the worthless DPF as well. Had another horrible regen on while towing some 28K loads and got 7mpg. Might as well use the semi at that point and do it in one trip.

The thing is this - i was quoted $4200 for the 7yr/200k diesel care warranty. The 200k is great but I would be out of warranty in 2014 based on time. The extra care ESP is supposed to cover all diesel engine concerns along with the radiator, etc. It's 3yr/48k from the date of purchase of the warranty. That would get me an extra year of coverage but only till about 125k. You guys are right - the repair costs are ridiculous. You almost have to have some type of ESP.

Should be able to get the 2/100 for around $3K, which is up from $2K just a year or two ago. $4200 is getting close to just deleting the DPF for $1500 and take your chances.

These warranties also greatly depend on what you plan to do with the truck. Many people including myself are of the opinion that to make these trucks last you need to ditch the DPF. But once you do that you void your Factory warranty and any ESP's you might have purchased. I was playing the ESP debate game a few months ago but decided that with already running a tuner it didn't make sense. I could try and hide it if I had a failure but if they busted me I'd be out the cost of the ESP plus the repair bill. I guess you have to pay to play

My nearest dealer gave me a quote of 2k for a 7yr/125k premium care esp. That would get me thru til 2014 or the 125k miles which I'll probably hit about that time. It seems to have the most coverage of any plan that I'm eligible for. I'm usually not a big fan of extended warranties but after a 1200.00 radiator - it seems every turn of the wrench on these things is a lot of cabbage. When I bought this truck (which still looks new) I knew it would be garaged kept and I was hoping for 6-7 years and about 200k miles worth of service. Did I set my expectations too high?

I am curious why you had a $1200.00 radiator replacement bill? I was under the impression that pretty much all radiator failures were being covered under 5/100,000 period. Am I wrong?

Yes, I'm curious about that too. I just purchased a 2009 f250 diesel (35k miles) with a CPO and curious to know if the warranty is basically worthless?

I chose to Delete. But I also built a 700 HP hot rod.. If I buy another one to upgrade my work truck it would be a tough decision. Ide probably lean towards deleting and a small tune. The dang things just run SOOO much better and get a lot better mileage. I think with regular maintenance, deleted they will run trouble free for hundreds of thousands of miles. If you look here Truck & Bus - Maxxforce 7 | MaxxForce

It seems the engine was designed to last 500.000 miles. I think the killer is all of the emissions crap that has been installed to make it EPA compliant.

If the truck is Modded, all warranty companies will buck on repairs

FORD Extended warranties are the ONLY way to go IMHO.

Aftermarket companies are a rip off & Lots of dealers WILL NOT accept or honor them.

Do your research.

Any powertrain plan doesn't really cover that many components

If your powertrain has went 50-75k, chances are your not gonna have any major problems.
