And put some arm and hammer backing powder in another pie pan in a few days was just fine, now the cat hair and claw marks was a different story.......

That's Funny! Hopefully it didn't do too much damage...

Honestly the smell doesn't bother me...I guess it would be nice to have a "Neutral" odor to the truck, but I am glad that others have noticed this, and it isn't just me...

I think a lot of the unusual smells come from the upholstery, dust buildup in all the little places you can't get to with a vac. Like behind the dash,in the wireing plugs, down in side the doors ,old rubber seals ,ect. Then theres the exhaust, smoking, crud on the bottom of your shoes ,coffee spilled on the seat, french fries and so on. It all gives it character ,L.O.L.

Old Man Smell

Old Men and Old Money have exactly the same smell

I use Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets in my Boat while it is covered. People come from 3 docks over just to Sniff this Old Man's boat when I take off the cover.

That's an interesting idea. I think my wife would love my truck if it smelled like dryer sheets all the time! When the weather warms up a little I'll give it a shot!

But yeah, my truck has that smell too. My dad had a '79 and '84 E150 (also an E250 somewhere in there that I don't remember very well) and they both smelled the exact same way. I think it's an oil/work/sweat/age thing that just all combines to make the Ford Trucks smell the way they do!

Dryer Sheets

Yep I stuff them in the springs so that every time my Empress moves in her seat a new wave of Fresh Scent hits the nose. I have found Bounce to do the best, as a matter of fact it there is something in them that keep the Skeeters away. I hook them in my belt when I fish. Looks silly but works like a charm.

I call it the old Ford smell... I've owned several of these and they all have had a similar smell. My dad's old 75 I learned to drive in back in 1985 was the same. My current truck smelled more like fresh paint when I got it. but 3+ years later, it's starting to get that familiar smell, especially when it's been parked/sealed up for a week. The seat and head liner were recovered and the door panels/dash pad were new, but still has original carpeting.

If you want neutral, try Pure Ayre. I used it again in my truck yesterday since I had some wet carpet last week. Dried that out then bombed it with pure Ayre. Got in after work this afternoon, no smells. It costs a little more but I use the marine formula. It's stronger and kicks butt

Mine has, or at least had that smell. My friend got in my truck soon after I bought it and said "it even [i]smells[i/] old!" She digs it though I'm not sure if it still has the smell though. The carpet is gone and I drive around with the window down whenever I can.
