It seems Ford has changed the GVW numbers on the HD F150s. I was looking at some today, a Crew Cab 6.5 foot bed and an Extended Cab Long Bed, both now rated at 7700 GVW. Is the 8200 GVW still available or is it being replaced by the 7700 GVW rating. What are the differences between this and the 8200 GVW (smaller springs, tires, etc?). And are these 7700 GVW trucks still have 7 lug rims or are they 6 lug?
I believe the 8200 GVW trucks are those with the HD payload package and 7 lug rims. The 7700 GVW are those with the Max Tow package and/or possibly Offroad Package and will have 6 lug rims.

I believe this is correct. I have a 2012 with the HD payload package, and my GVWR is 8,200 lbs. 7,700 lbs is the HD payload package, and that one does not have the 7-lug wheels.
All 6-1/2 foot bed Heavy Duty Payload Supercrews have the 8,200 GVWR and 7 lug wheels. Payload on an XLT will be roughly 2,200 to 2,300 pounds, while the Lariat will be around 2,100. The OP mentioned payload in his post title.
