06 starts for a second,then Dies.?

Did change oil last night on it, took for a nice drive around 20 miles and ran fine. This morning I cranked starter and it fires off, but then dies as soon as it fires up. Puffing out some black smoke not a lot but black none the less. Help......something simple maybe, 65.000 miles and well maintained. Mark

The oil is not what I normally use. Put in Mobile Delvac 15-40 last night. Normally use Rotella synthetic but they were out of it. The dash oil guage does come up to pressure while cranking.

The Oil Filter and Cap worrey me mopre than the Oil viscosity

The problem is there is an oil filter Drain that needs to be pushed down in the Bottom of the oil filter housing If its not pushed down than it drains all the oil that should go to the HPOP

The injectoras are Fired with Oil

It all went down at the same time almost the oil filter change and the no start

I havent heard of this particular cap filter setup you have if you can I would dig the old cap out the trash if you threw it out

Best thing is OEM Cap and Motocraft/Fram/RacorCore oil filters

do you have any gauges

I can get factory cap back on there, and pick up a new oil filter easy enough.
Is it possible for the oil pressure to register on dash guage and not crank up the high pressure side for injectors.? Hopping in wifes car to get a motorcraft or fram filter.
Thinking your right , awfully couincidental it happened after oil change.

No Kidden

well that Gauge on the dash will register pressure at 7psi oil pressure shows normal so

Now IIRC the LPO system regulates at 70 psi so big diffrence in the 2

can you monitor ICP & IPR% thats how to check the HPO system

I dont have any equipment for it. Its bone stock exept I have 4-1/2 exhaust straight out no muffler and a empty cat.

Looks about the same on suspension as yours, been looking hard at top gun customz soft ride 6" coils for the front. Wide open for suggestions on softning ride a bit.

As far as readers/programers do you have a recommendation on what is a good thing to have on hand. Truck has been trouble free until today. I am really on it as far as maintanance, looks like new under hood still.

Will have to go to Ford tomorrow and pick up that oil filter cap,one I have is not a factory one. Will pick up motorcraft filters too.

My money is on a bad FICM, or an EGR valve stuck open due to being badly carboned up, by the sounds of what you describe. But without a scan tool and codes read, this would be a purely professional, educated GUESS on my part.

And yes, by the way STOP and I mean STOP using those garbage aftermarket filters with those one-piece caps too. I have seen way too many of them coming in with trashed IPR valves too.

I have acess to 2 broken down 6.0 F250 trucks 2005 & 2006 model years. They are both complete, I will pull a ficm tomorrow and if the oil filter doesn't do it I will try that. I know its not the egr. Did notice more soot than I normal last time when I cleaned it.

Thanks for the input fella's, there is a obvious huge pool of knowledge on this website and I am thankful for the help. Mark..
