Unless you use Bushwacker "Cut-Out" fender flares, 40" tires typically require a 10" lift kit. Because you converted your front end to the 2011+ Super Duty, you have eliminated the "Cut-Out" option because Bushwacker doesn't make them yet for the 2011+ Super Duty. With the 15.5" wide tires, you will need some fender flares for protecting that new green paint. I would recommend Bushwacker "Pocket" style fender flares (1999-2007) in the rear and (2011-2012) in the front.

Note: You may be able to use the Bushwacker 2011+ "Pocket" fender flares on both front and rear. This would be your best option!

1999-2007 Rear "Pocket" Fender Flares:

2011-Present Front "Pocket" Fender Flares:

8"-10" should get you there. your choice of rims is really where you will get the most gain or loss. I've got 12" of clearance with my 4.5" kit and 35x12.5" rubber. My rims give me over 2" of clearance side to side as well with full lock.

those wide tires are going to make things tough

I second the flares though. you'll need the extra wide ones and probably some extra rubber to keep from slinging stuff down the side

I probably not gonna put flares on it. currently I'm gonna use my 22x10 -26 offset wheels till I get the 22x14 -76 wheels I haven't chosen yet.but I've been hearing 8" to 12" Is the minimum I'm just curious what you guys think

If you plan on running a 22x14 with 40's you will need at least 10" of lift. I've seen it done with 8" and the front bumper was shimmed out way far and the back part of the fender had to be trimmed a lot.

you are going to start hitting driveshaft and brake-line issues with 8" and higher lifts

considered a body lift? if you don't use the truck as well...a truck, a body lift would be a nice economical way to get some height. a good quality 6" lift + 3" body will get you where you need to be

In your case, you have a GEN1 (1999-2004) suspension. You installed a GEN4 (2011-Present) front end. While I do know that the GEN4 front wheel wells are the largest available for any Super Duty, I don't know if Ford increased the size of the GEN4 rear wheel wells. You have the GEN1 rear wheel wells on your Super Duty.

40" tires are larger than the OEM front and rear wheel wells so you have to have sufficient lift to avoid damage to the body. If you are off-roading, even more lift is required due to flexing of the truck.

TruckToyzPerformance.com has a "Gallery" where you can select the appropriate criteria for your desired application (see link below). Here are a few examples of GEN1 Super Duties with 40" tires. Note the clearance at both the front and rear wheel wells.

http://www.trucktoyzperformance.com/...earch-blue.php

Example 1: 12.5" Lift Kit - 40" Tires - 20" Wheels

Example 2: 12.5" Lift Kit - 40" Tires - 20" Wheels

Example 3: 9" Lift Kit - 39.5" Tires - 20" Wheels

Example 4: 10.5" Lift Kit - 39.5" Tires - 20" Wheels

Example 4: 10.5" Lift Kit - 39.5" Tires - 20" Wheels

There are many other trucks in the gallery, many of which are GEN2 (2005-2007) or GEN3 (2008-2010).
