My 2004 F-250 had 265/75-16 (31") tires on 16X7 rims when I bought it.....bone stock. I later put on 285/75-16 (33") tires on the stock rims. I have heard of guys even going up to 315/75-16 tires (35") on the stock wheels but you will get rubbing up front, and the tires may wear funny because of the narrow rim. With all that said..... I think if you are not lifting the truck in any way, the 285 is the way to go.

285/75-16 is what I went with. It fills up the fender better than stock. I went with the Firestone Destination A/T and after 30K miles they need replacing. I wish I knew what tire to go to next.
