Clutch help needed

Just planning to do a clutch job and am wondering what you guys are using. The truck is pretty much stock except intake, exhaust, intercooler, it will be getting efuel and fresh injectors.

I don't know how much power it will make but am sure with a chip and gauges it would have a bit.

I was looking at: Ford 7.3L Diesel Powerstroke Clutches Clutch Kit Solid Flywheel - Dual Mass to Single Mass Conversion Kits by LuK and am not sure what to think of the price they have listed.

The parts guy quoted 1300 for a flywheel+ clutch+ rear main.. etc.

I paid under 500 for mine through napa. It is the single mass kit. It has 10k on it with no slippage or problems. I havea chip and ordinary mods.

What are your napa part numbers? I have an account there and that would be easiest to get.

Did you do any other work while you had the trans out?

I don't mind spending the money just want to be able to do repairs without having to wait long periods of time for parts.

How many people running the SMF have gear rollover and how bad is the noise? Does it effect the life of the trans?

the gear rollover won't hurt the trans as far as I know. My gear rollover used to be really loud when I did my first SMF clutch, but after some miles and filling the trans 1 quart over full like Dan suggested, barely noticeable.

Its kind of a given but not mentioned. Do the pilot bearing and throwout while youre in there. Also inspect the ball that the clutch fork pivots on as well as the fork itself.
Is your rear main leaking already?
Theres not too much wait from Valair. I received mine like 46 hours after ordering it and didn't pat any special shipping. They've got a heavier duty organic unit with a great price tag. I didn't have the money for kevlar or ceramic.

Has anyone bought from midwest truck products? Or is there a better supplier in the NW?

They offer the Valair kit for 638.** free shipping.

I am thinking with the money I save going single mass I will get some gauges....

I would just get Valair from them directly. There's no doubt that they can give you the same deal or better than a supplier can.

Call Valair talk to Dan or Gary. Tell them Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you and they will sweeten up the price a little more. Gear rollover is a crap shoot. Some trannies do it worse than others. You'll never know till you do it. But Valair all the way.

Today we swapped over the new turbo and a bunch of the other new parts. I thought of taking the exhaust but decided to leave it behind as the crew cab has a pyrometer port.

The valley was dirty and had fresh fuel in it so a new pump will go in next. It would be nice to convert to electric fuel right now but I would rather have the truck running and new injectors first.

It is funny that the single cab runs better with the old parts! It is smoother and quiter! makes me wonder what we fixed....

Looking forward to getting the clutch in. I have decided to get the one that is rated to 350hp as I think that will be a good match soon.

Was thinking of ordering some ev2 gauges from isspro. any thoughts?
