Project: Check This Out!

Ok so this is what happened, I was playing poker last night. And my friend was going on about the new motor he got for his Licnoln. A 460 out of a 89 F150. He spent a 600 hundred bucks on the whole truck to get the motor. The install got as far as pulling the 5.0l and AOD to drop the 460 in. Dude never got around to putting in the Big Block. So I told him I was intrested in the truck. This is were the check it out part comes in.
This is what I gave him:

He needed them for his rat rod Ford/Dodge/Chevy thing
And this is what I got:

Think I got the better end of the deal. It needs a fuel put which is why the swap started to begin with, that is the motor and transmission sitting in the bed. When I get off work tomorrow we dad and I are going to go piuck it up with the wrecker. And thankfully nothing was hacked up or chopped off yet. I have a nice set of black Carr Hoop Side steps that a customer from work gave me off of his 85 f150 and I want to build a headache rack/tool box set up. But first I am going to get the motor dropped in and get this thing running. So thats how my day went. Finally one for Thomas.

Congrats! I would say you did get the better end of that deal. He was probably just happy to get the truck, also a reminder of his failed project, out of sight.

I got the truck home today. Its a 90 F150, looks good. Motor turns over freely nothing has any water it them. The only thing I have found so far is that the D/S exhaust manifold is cracked pretty bad, and the fuel lines under that connect to the rails were cut. So I am on the hunt for so used parts. The plan right now is to put the motor trany transfer case back in and hook everything up and see if it will fire or what. Want to now what the fuel problem was that made this guy pull the engine. Weirdos. Oh well here it goes.

For what its worth, there was never a stock 460 in an f150 in that year. Wonder if your buddy knows that, and is putting a 351 w in his lincoln instead?

So someone was going to put a 460 in this F150 but gave up, your friend bought it to get the 460 for his Lincoln but gave up, and you got it to finish the 460 install? In any case it seems like you got a good deal. I just gave away a pair of stock ford 8 lug wheels to a co-worker. If I'd know I could have got a truck with a 460 waiting to be dropped in I would have kept them!

I wish I was putting a 460 in it but I'm not that motor is my boys Lincoln already. The motor trany and tcase that came with the truck is the stock 5.0l. I am reassembling it and going to use it for a wood hauler mountain truck. Nothing fancy just a runner with some mild upgrades. I hope that clears it all up for everyone, my self included.

Those 5.0l motors aren't very good for real hauling. They aren't junk but you have to wind 'em up a bit to get into the powerband. I had a truck with one and it hauled what I wanted but I was having to stand on the skinny pedal and I really wasn't happy with it. A 5.8 would be better if you can get yer paws on one. But the 5.0 will probably work for you if that what you want to do, seeing as you already have one.

Looks like a nice truck. What transmission does it have? You should probably add an external tranny cooler if your gonna be hauling wood around.

So I worked on the fuel lines today. I got a few feet of High Pressure Fuel Line and clamped the ends on them. It is impossible to find the lines that I needed. I was going to have them made but the prices were outrageous. I Cut the hose a little long so I could secure them to the firewall and keep them tucked out of the way. Here is what i came up with.

Burnout: I know the 5.0l isnt a good towing motor, I want to get a 5.8L but for now I am going to use what I got. Im not going to load the hell out of the truck with wood or what ever. Or I might set out my 10 ft trailer to move the wood. I like the idea of an external trany cooler. I am going to look at the options out there.

Right now I am just getting everything together so I can pull the truck in the shop and start putting it together. But I have to get this out of the shop first.

Just about to get the truck out finishing the plumnbing (it a homemade water sprayer, lol) and get it off to paint. 92 F450
