I am new to post but have been searching for answers. I have a 2003 F250 King Ranch with about 150k miles on it. I am having a problem when i come to a stop at the top of a long steep hill. Once stopped, I try to accelerate and nothing happens. The engine seems to bog down and puts out some black smoke out the tail pipe. This will last for about 20-30 sec and then the engine will pick back up and resume as normal. Keep in mind i am not pulling anything when it happens. I have recently had the EGR Cooler/filter, High pressure oil pump replaced. This particular problem happened a few times prior to getting the Cooler replaced and i took EGR valve out an cleaned it and the problem went away for awhile, but its back again (10k miles ago). Do you all think i just need to replace the EGR Valve or is it something else?

 

super duty engine protection system is your problem

running too hot makes the engine switch 4 cylinders on / off at a time to cool engine

part of the problem might be the vanes on your turbo sticking in a position and too much heat coming back into the engine

easiest way to clean out turbo is to punch it every once and a while with a descent load on truck to push out build up in turbo...

but id say you need an egr delete kit

or just keep replacing the valve
