Truck won't start and I suspect it to be the ignition. Batteries are good but wanna know where would be the best place to order an ignition. Thanks

Ignition...switch

You mean injectors, maybe?

Do you get a glow plug light? 03's don't have the WTS light correct.

Maybe more details on what is going on? Turning over, smoking while cranking?

Sorry for the lack of details. I am get a wts light but when I turn to start it the truck will not crank. It got two new batteries last year so I know they are still good. Sometimes it will crank when it wants to and other times it doesn't.

Have you tried starting in both the Park and Neutral positions? Wiggle the gear shift? You need to check for power at the wire on the small wire on the solenoid of the starter when the key is in the Start position. Although I haven't heard much about them giving trouble, the 03's have the Start Relay in the Fuse Panel and could have failed also.
Here is a wiring diagram that will help to determine where the problem lies.

Try it with the lever in neutral, if that works, there's two torx head screws under the steering column that need tightened up.

Good point, Bill! Reps sent!
You need to determine if the DTR Sensor is actually going into the proper position. Slack in the shift linkages can cause this misalignment.

Heavy corrosion on the starter leads can also lead to a no crank. Use a volt meter and see if you are getting voltage to the main post and the silonoid.

Thanks Roland, this was what happened to mine. Went and bought a ignition slide switch and put it in, tried start in park and it wouldn't go. Then it hit me about those screws below the steering column, I found them and both were loose, tighten them up and no problems since.

Thanks I'll give that a try. I remember wiggling the steering column to get it started one day so you may have hit the nail on the head.

Do I have to undo any parts or bolts to get to the torx screws? Thanks for all the advice.

Just remove the panel that covers the fuse box , just to give you better access.

Here is a pic of the torx screws, laying in the floor with your head at the pedals, looking up.

Ya can also try adjusting the linkage by the side of the trans, put in nutral level ground park brake off, unlock plastic adjuster on trans shift lever and adjust so the cable play is centered while in nutural then lock the conector. Just dont run yer self over while in nutural..chock er up

No, they are not electrical.
